Hello again everyone!

With the JB file being leaked, there are a lot of questions flying around on the forums and chat room so I'd like to build an article addressing many of the frequently asked questions!

What happened and why did I not get the OTA?

This question is fairly simple, someone turned the OTA on when they shouldn't have. Motorola caught the error and was able to terminate the OTA update in flight. This is why many of you may have had "Download failed". I have a RAZR MAXX Limited Edition and was able to successfully pull the entire OTA down before they cut it off. My wife's MAXX, however, cut off about halfway through. That should give you an idea of just how quickly they killed the transfers.

Is this the official version?

Yes and no. Yes, in that all sources that I've spoken with have said that this will, more than likely, be the final build that will be pushed OTA [NOT FULLY CONFIRMED YET]. No, in that the OTA push was accidental. Meaning someone pushed the "go, baby, go!" button a little prematurely. Also, according to Tier 2 tech support if your phone received the update in its entirety then consider it a "Christmas present from Motorola".

If I want to update, what should I expect?

Well, you should expect a fully functional JB update that has many improvements, mostly in speed and performance. I've noticed a very significant decrease in boot time and much more fluid swiping.

One thing that's very important to understand is that if you don't follow the instructions to the letter on mattlgroff's thread, you will lose root.

UPDATED: SS3.05 does in fact work on JB.

Are there any known issues or programs that no longer work?

Yes, FoxFi will not work, period. When you try to activate the hotspot, it will simply reboot the OS after it performs "Checking subscription status". For the time being, you can use the built in "VZW Mobile Hotspot".

NOTE: The VZW Hotspot WILL work with unlimited data using the SQLite hack!

What are the prerequisites?

This is VERY IMPORTANT!! You MUST be on system version .211. There is NO WAY around this. If you are on .215, you will need to fastboot back to stock .211.

What else should I know?

There is NO GOING BACK TO ICS at this time. This is for the same reason that we couldn't go back to GB from ICS, the bootloader version and signature changed so if you try, you will probably get a flash failure.

There are NO FASTBOOT FILES FOR JB......yet. Simply put, once you're on JB there a very small safety net so modding may cause issues. Until we get the FB files, there's no "Wiping and trying again".

If you have ANY additional questions, post them in the comments section. I'll add a placeholder to answer any questions you all may have!

I'm on JB and didnt use SQLite and the tether works fine. Any additional info? The tether is free now as long as you're not on an unlimited data plan from what I understand.

Just so you know, the circles can be added in "One More Clock Widget Free" from the market.

I had trouble going from .211 to this. It crashed my memory card and everything. But i factory reset the phone. And formatted the internal and external memory, (i have the 64gb ultra micro), and jb has been working perfectly since. And my battery life lasted a full day with alot of use. I have the White Razr, non maxx. And its been awesome

One more clock may sort of look like the Moto circle widget... but sort of .... is about it.

The REAL Widget can be added by installing the Razr M home and circle widget files.

VZW Hotspot works fine with the sql hack and the unlimited plan. :)

Thanks for this quick writeup. I'm sure a lot of people will find it very informative because of the way things went down.

FWIW...I had tons of issues on my razr maxx after the ics update; constant lockups, screen freezes, very glitchy performance, battery not lasting even a full day on light to no use even after wiping data, factory resets 100 times etc. And it was getting very hot just web browsing with the screen at half brightness. I was on 6.16.215

I used Matt's utility (thanks mattlgroff) to revert back to stock .211 and then applied update via sdcard.
After the JB update I did a complete data wipe and factory reset and my phone has new life, no freezing, screen transitions are smooth; its like getting a new phone. It was eating battery fast after update so I let it drain completely yesterday afternoon then a full charge and it has been on idle since 7:30pm last evening and it is at 84% 12:45pm today.

Glad I am going to let this train pass me by. My phone works too good with custom roms to go through this frustration. I came close to doing it but talked myself out of it.

Wow dude. Could you be any more offensive and ungrateful in your post?

Work on getting your phone working the way it should (jb is a great update) instead of useless venting.

I have not had any issues thus far. The home screens animate quicker when closing applications. Scrolling is a lot more smooth as far as I can tell. One thing that I can tell is when at the home screens the notification area is a transparent blue but when switching to apps it goes to black. Not sure if this is intentional and it doesn't bother me but It's just one small thing I notices.

Never mind that seems to only apply if you have a blue background.

Tried to apply the update within recovery, and it gives me an error verifying the checksum on hotspotmanager.apk .

I (stupidly, it would appear) removed the Hotspot Manager previously to debloat my system. The .odex is still there but the apk is gone. Is there a stock .211 rom out there that I can pull the .apk out of which would likely have the correct version the update pre-check is looking for? Looked inside the original .211 ICS update patch to see if I could glean it from that zip and it wasn't there. Thanks.
