There was just someone last night in the chat from Sri Lanka that bought a CDMA Razr on eBay or Amazon and was asking the same question.
Poor guy has a $750 paper weight.

Mhh that doest sound good, though it says any razr, also tehe verizon ones, have a gsm antenna. Even mentioned in fcc reports..
LTE is a GSM based technology, so all the Verizon LTE devices have a GSM antenna of sorts. People have speculated about the possibility of making some of these phones work on international GSM networks, especially the Rezound and RAZR. However, to my knowledge there has been no serious effort here, or even any indication that this would be possible. Even if the hardware is there, its still a different configuration than the international version, and would almost certainly require a custom kernel, as well as custom radio firmware. The former can't happen unless we can unlock our bootloader, and the latter is extremely difficult. Making the radio firmware requires a very high degree of technical skill, and would also require access to engineering data for the hardware, as well as Verizon's network infrastructure.
Maybe it is possible, and if so, maybe its easier than I make it sound, but I doubt it. I really wouldn't count on it, and certainly not anytime soon. I'm sure they'll have an international version of the RAZR MAXX, maybe even with the 720p screen, before too long.

there must be a way to achieve this.... the reason I am saying that is I have a GSM razr.. I didnt notice that the IC3Razr rom was CDMA only and flashed it to my phone...It booted perfectly and ran fine but, my phone thought it was a CDMA device info even stated xt912. Because of this I could not connect to my GSM network the weird part was I could would still receive SMS messages while loaded but couldn't send anything. This could be just a newbie ideal ( I have no dev knowledge at all) but wouldn't that mean all the CDMA/GSM information is stored within the ROM software now if this is the case you should be able to switch from GSM to CDMA with different ROMS. Please correct me if I am wrong as this is just my observation of the situation. hmmm....
The radios are different in the phones. The actual hardware chips. You cannot make a phone that's manufactured to only work on LTE also work on normal GSM bands. They're on completely different spectrums. In layman terms, they don't speak the same language. The rezound however seems to be a little unique. But as this isn't an HTC forum I'll leave that explanation out.

Isn't moto releasing ics with gsm compatibility? It is possible, just extremely hard.

<p>I called Verizon to get an unlock code and by default the phone isn't locked. Verizon advised me that the phone was already unlocked. So I went about my travels and went to Greece and London and all the pre-paid cards were working fine. All I had to put in was the pre-paid SIM card unlock code, not the phone's. </p>

<p>THIS PHONE HAS A GSM AND CDMA compatible CHIP!!! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Enjoy all!!<img alt="" class="bbc_emoticon" src=" title="" /> </p>

Arcane quick question then kill this thread. But lets say if i go overseas do i have to get the mobile apn info to use the data towers or was that mixed in 4.0.4. And is it only prepaid sim or can i use contract sims?

As far as I am aware you can use any non-US SIM you want. Prepaid or otherwise. I personally can't test as I haven't left the country in a while but that's what I've been told. As far as data, it's going to depend on the provider. Many of them will auto-pull. Some will require manual config. Unfortunately, there's no blanket answer there. (Example: Tmobile USA didn't used to pull auto-apn info but ATT did. Not sure if that's still true or not but that's how it was for a long time. This obviously doesn't pertain to the razr but that's how it was on my blackberry years ago).

A friend gave me a Razr Maxx that he set up for use with Straight Talk. It worked great until I broke the phone I don't know what he did but I"m sending a new one to him hoping he can do it again

I too am curious about this.... I have both a Razr Maxx, and Razr M that I'd like to discontinue my Verizon contract for.
I just got off the phone with Straight Talk to explain what I want to do, and the gentleman assured me that Straight Talk will work with my Verizon devices... I told him that I thought that CDMA devices will not run on a GSM network, but he again told me that I can use my existing Verizon handsets with Straight Talk. All I need to do is to purchase the ST plan (from Walmart), call Verizon to get the Access Code, and then contact ST for the conversion. He did say that I may need to purchase a sim card (from Walmart) that will allow for 4G.
I'm not sure I'm buying what he is saying to be true... My biggest fear is to try to convert, having it fail, and not being able to go back to Verizon. It involves a $190 contract termination fee, so I'd hate to pay that only to not have it work. Does anyone know if in the process, I can get the phone working first with ST before I go and terminate the contract?
Thanks
Dave

Just found this.... Maybe the guy was right?
UPDATE: I went to the link and put in my Phone's MEID/Serial Number, and it says "Invalid" This program will not work with 4G LTE technology phones. Hmmm....

Might be but I noticed this in the list of reasons to switch.

Keep 4G speeds when bringing a 4G T-Mobile compatible device
What does that mean for Verizon 4G devices? Are they T-Mobile compatible? I don't know.

Just out of curiosity what happens if you just pop an activated StraightTalk SIM into the XT912 Razr Maxx and set the phone to GSM or Global?
