Curious as to what the procedure would be to restore to stock. I'm about to give viper a run and I know I need to flash a different boot.img/kernel as well.

Doing a nandroid backup won't include the stock kernel will it? Do we have access to the stock kernel and Rom if something goes wrong?

What would the restore procedure be?

There is a thread

to take you back to stock. I am not sure if your back up will contain the stock kernel. I would guess no since whenever you change just kernel you must flash the stock kernel in fastboot and stock modules in recovery.

It's very unusual considering how much they've been cool about development

Ok, Hope this is ok to post hear. So that thread posted above links to how to return to full stock/locked/unrooted. Does anyone have a way to get back to stock rooted? Ie just the kernal/boot.img so i can apply my nano backup? I have the stock kernal, but not sure if that is enough? do i need kernal and boot.img or will that be in stock kern?. Thanks in advance.

I believe you have to just flash the stock boot.img in fastboot and flash the stock modules in recovery to accomplish what you want. Also note whenever flashing a new kernel you have to flash the stock modules in recovery first.

what are stock modules? o.O and if I create a full back up on CWM touch does it back up the boot.img? I wanna try a rom, but i'd like to go back to stock eventually, not fairly new to this but this process is...only had the DNA for a day lol
also, can I run the RUU to stock on a custom rom?
any info is greatly appreciated. thanks!

The Modules are in a zip file that usually comes with the Kernel. If you download a kernel it should be a zip file. Unzip that and you will have the Boot.img and a zip of the modules. The Boot.img is flashed in fastboot and the Modules are flashed before or after in recovery. When changing Kernels you will need to flash the stock modules before fastbooting the Boot.img and then flash the new kernel modules.

CWM backup and all wipes in CWM will never touch the boot.img

Not sure about the RUU from a custom rom but I would guess it is possible

Im using TWRP, but i went from a rom to stock to another rom... As follows.

1. As stock, right after unlock/root/setup. I went into twrp wiped cache only did nano backup. Reboot.
2 (note i dont flash my kernals/boot image in adb, i use flash image gui. Only because im off alot and dont have pc handy. I would recommend adb)
Flashed boot.img in gui immediately reboot. Flashed modules. Wiped everything, installed rom reboot = profit.

3. Flashed stock boot.img / stock modules, wiped everything. restored my stock backup , reboot = profit.

4 flashed my new boot.img /modules for 2nd rom. Wiped everything, flashed another rom (viper) reboot = profit.

This worked great for me. Didnt have a prob, and everything worked great. Stock restore was intact. Still unlocked and rooted, functioning just as i left her.

Signed with the blood of my DNA
