Guys, this is my first post. I consider myself as an advanced novice, which is to say I can do damage!

Thanks to the many posts I have searched here, I was able to restore my Razr HD XT926 with RSD Lite although I lost all data. But I had files in the SD drive so it is all good.

Now, I have another issue on another XT926. This one is a Razr MAXX 4.2.2 183.46.15.

I was troubleshooting it to look for a bad app and placed it on Safe mode to check. Then trying to boot it back I got the infamous red eye of death.

I am able to get it into fastboot and RSD Lite will pick it up.

My question is, can I recover this without losing the data by flashing, or better yet, what is my best option to recover data like pictures and such. The phone is stock, never attempted to root.

Whether or not I can restore it, is there another option to recover the data as the phone is and then just flash the whole thing back from scratch? Searching the forum has not helped me with this scenario.

It is the user data I need. Otherwise I would have flashed it back to life. I just want to be sure I did not miss anything.

Thanks in advance!

Before we get into this I want to make sure that this is the right phone and that it is a Maxx not a Maxx HD

If that is the right phone then it is a XT912 M.

If you are as you say able to access the bootloader (fastboot) and have the proper firmware I would look at House of Moto 4.3 and follow the instructions exactly from start to finish. It will give you the option of saving the userdata or wiping it. With the bootloader  being locked remember you can only flash the same firmware or newer, anything else could result in a bricked device.  The xt912 and the xt926 are not firmware interchangeable. The 926 has a snapdragon processor and the 912 has an OMAP processor

The above link is our 912 area. The phone is getting very long in the tooth so a lot of the links are dead. Google is your friend :)

Hello. Sorry for the delay here.

No it is the Droid HD Maxx XT926. Snapdragon.

I wanted to try and run out the battery and see if that would bring it to life but no such luck. Also tried disconnecting the battery.

Short version: All I did to the phone is try and boot it into safe mode to track a misbehaving app. I made no changes to any settings other than freezing an app. I believe it was Whatsapp. The phone was incredibly sluggish.

Once I shut it down and tried to restart, I got the REOD.

Version is  4.2.2   183.46.15. I am able to get it into fastboot and RSD Lite will pick it up.

Any help will be appreciated. All I want is to recover the data one way or another.

Go to this thread and read the instructions very carefully.

This tool will allow you to flash and not wipe your user data or you can do a full clean wipe and install. You will have to flash the same version or newer if your bootloader is locked, and with the version you are on the only way to unlock it is to use J Case's sunshine app which will cost $25.00.  Read and follow the instructions for House Of Moto (HOM) for setting it up with the proper drivers and snapdragon support.
