Last week I tried to buy a new phone from one of the members here (they have been banned). Through talking here and in email I was feeling confident that the deal was on the up and up. I was wrong. I made a payment to them through Amazon payments. I was in contact with them through their shipping process. What I received was a box of junk. Amazon has told me I am out of luck and was not going to take any action. I am currently in the process of trying to get my money back through my bank. Probably have only a 50/50 chance of that happening.

So I am cautioning all of you to be careful...

I would recommend a couple things:

First... once you are in contact have them send you a pic of the phone with something of your choosing written on a piece of paper.

Second... I would have them post the phone on Swappa and have them sell it to you through there. This will have you covered by the great protections and policy of that site.

While I don't want to rehash my entire story here if you have any questions feel free to ask. Also this is not discounting all the honest long term members here trying to sell their stuff. This is just a word of caution to protect yourself.

Amazon Payments isn't going to help you?... Well, I know one service I won't be using to send money anymore.

I have to admit, my blood is boiling a bit over this.  Amazon Payments not supporting a customer engaged in what they thought was a legitimate transaction?!  One would read their policy (

) and rightly assume Amazon would intervene on your behalf.  I'd write them a strong letter and try to scare the pants off them.  The few times I've had to defend myself in a financial transaction, I copy the Better Business Bureau and the NYS Banking Department (I, too, live in NY).  Most companies don't want their transactions investigated by banking authorities and will take some measure of intervention to make the situation disappear.  Do you get CBS news channel - Arnold Diaz, Shame on You?  I copied CBS on a letter, but not actually sent it assuming Diaz wouldn't care, but wanted to convey I wouldn't be as easily intimidated as the corporation was hoping I would be.  Fortunately, I've only twice had disputes over financial transactions and even though the end result may not have been what I wished, I at least felt better being proactive.  Good luck, and I hope your bank can help you somehow, the person who took your money committed a crime.

Yeah..I bought something from someone here and it had a locked bootloader! Hahaha :p
Seriously though, that's a bunch of BS! You'd think that whatever service you were using would be somewhat helpful to keep crap like this happening. Sucks!

Well,it's been very solid and definitely has made it easier to port back and forth between the Bionic and RAZR. Still think I need my head checked for buying it just for theming!

Sorry to hear that!  Not related to this website, but a few years ago I bought a text book from someone through Amazon.  After it didn't ship in over a week I started emailing the seller, and after a few days he finally responded saying he's sorry but he already sold the book.  Of course I asked why he charged me then, and he promised to reimburse me the money.  Never did.  Contacted Amazon and they wouldn't take action until the potential shipping date had passed, which is like 6 months from when I purchased it, even with the proof I had that the seller wasn't going to send me the product he promised.  Wound up getting my money back, but still, as a broke college kid who needed all the money he could get, it wasn't a fun process.
