Screen stuck in Landscape Mode

Best Answer Guest_BDH_* , 01 June 2013 - 02:11 PM

Hmm I suppose I could try that out. Taking the phone apart is definitely not ideal. May I ask why you don't think the Disable HDMI port option from version 4.1.1 would fix it? I've seen a couple of posts of people having success with that, I am just unfortunately on 4.1.2 so I can't attempt.

I had an OG RAZR like this and the fix was simple, Settings > Display > HDMI then turn it off. It seems this option isn't available on the HD though. I would check out some of the options in THIS app before taking the phone apart. You can also look into an app that can help you calibrate the screen.

Hi everyone, I am having an issue where my screen seems to always be stuck in landscape mode. There are a few other posts on this topic, and it seems to be caused by corrosion in the HDMI port making the phone think and HDMI cable is plugged in. No amount of wiggling/rebooting will fix it. After this happened and Verizon snubbed me about getting it fixed, I rooted/unlocked the bootloader/ installed custom ROMs hoping for a fix.

First question, Are there any ROMs out there based on Android 4.1.1? I'm still new to this site so I might be looking in the wrong places, but in Android 4.1.1 there was an option to disable the HDMI port, which was removed in the move to 4.1.2.

I was also hoping there might be a way to fix it with a newer ROM, so far I've flashed Cyanogen 10.1, Slim 5.8, and RageHD. Some unique behavior I observed, and this might help anyone else with this problem, was in Slim 5.8, if I went into settings and unchecked the Rotation modes for 270 and 180 and then unchecked Auto-Rotate screen it forced the phone to portrait (Unfortunately it forced every app to be in portrait, even the default landscape games). However, the Cyanogen mod has the same menu settings, and they seem to have no effect whatsoever. I realize both of these are in Beta but perhaps this could narrow down my issue a bit more?

Anyway, thanks for any help you guys can give! I'm going to keep looking around and flashing ROMs hoping to find one that's perfect! Let me know if you need more information.

If it is in-fact due to corrosion on the HDMI port...... chances are another ROM will not fix it....... If you are adept at fixing things you could disassemble the phone... clean the corrosion off the port ..... then reassemble...... or a less invasive way you could use a small brush and get down inside the port to clean it.....

Thanks a ton BigDaddyHicks. I think I could get this app to work with me and do what I need to do! Awesome! The only other thing I saw that was a big issue was my audio, but I was able to fix that with another app (Name is slipping my mind).

Quick question for you, would it even be possible to code up that disable HDMI setting for the HD Razr or is it so far embedded in the kernel settings it would be impossible? I am a software engineer by trade and would definitely be willing to put in the time to code up the fix, I just have about 0 android development experience and would need someone to nudge me in the right direction.

Thanks again for pointing me to that rotation app!

It's definitely possible but would take tons of work that I have no clue about lol.

Haha fair enough, if this app gives me trouble I may have to look into it, but all looks well now. Thanks again! Wish I would have known about this app before rooting/unlocking the bootloader and doing all of that, but it's good to know how! Good reason to get started in the un-locking community haha!
