i'm thinking about taking a long hard look at the one when it drops next  month. but i have a real fear of htc's radios. i'm a former eris owner and while it was a great little pocket computer, it just could not grab a cellular PHONE signal. i missed so many calls people would see me and say i tried to call you several times and you wouldn't answer the phone. if they happened to leave a voice mail i would get that but no missed call notification because the phone never grabbed the signal. i live way out in the sticks and my bionic with the motorola radios has been great.

has htc improved on their radios over the last few years?

No worries. It's night and day. I had the TB so I hear ya but the radios are right on par with Moto. I almost never lose data and the 3g to 4g handoff is quite seemless. You'll be fine. It's a great phone. Get it.  :p

Thanks, i feel better now. I wasn't too concerned with data, but with my dad in a nursing home, i need to be accessable at all times as far as phone calls go. Thanks again.

I have never had any dropped signal issues at all. Owned it since Nov

I have the DNA and also live in the sticks. I'm having no issues with phone reception, far as I'm concerned it's on par with my Bionic.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'm just so full of questions now. There's not a whole lot of differences in the dna and the one. The dna is free at bestbuy this week. Is there that much of a difference in the processors to warrent the several hundred dollar difference in price? I probably won't be rooting or unlocking bootlloaders, so how well do you think htc and verizon will do to keep the dna upgraded? If i go ahead and get the dna it will have to last the entire 24 months.

If cost is at all a concern, you would definitely be happy with the DNA IMO.  There have been sightings of 4.2 being on the DNA Dev devices, so there may be an update coming in the not too distant future.  I have to say, even if that was as far as it went, that the DNA would keep a user content up to the EOF.

Well unless you are jumping from Big V the One is not an option. I would say anyway you will not have a speed problem with the DNA. It will smoke your Bionic. You will be happy. As for updates... who freakin knows. Rumor has it Sense 5 4.2.2 is already being worked on for the DNA. Updates are always a toss up. But even if it never gets another update you will be quite happy for a while.

Thanks again. I'll probably be visiting best buy in the next day or so. My husband is gonna want to know why i want this phone over the hd. (when he got his phone back in january i told him it was the best one out right then). And he does love it. But i think for me right now the dna wowuld be a better fit. I really wanted to wait for the x but i think my bionic is sick. It works great until i do anything web related on 4g, then it gets HOT.

Not to twist your arm or anything but I'd go with the DNA. If Best Buy is handing them out for free, with 2 year activation of course, how can you go wrong. At first I wasn't going to unlock my phone but after Kaos, Memnoch and Dave twisted my arms I did it. Was super easy now I'm all set to start flashing custom ROMs. Another good thing unlocking the phone is if newer OTA updates are not pushed, there are enough developers creating ROMs that you'll always have the latest software well past EOL.

Just my opinions, your mileage may vary.

Just something to maybe ask while there - when I upgraded one of my devices, I was given the option of a one year contract instead of two.  It cost me an extra $30 is all.  To shorten my contract by a year, it was worth it to me.  Now, after I did it, they actually only added 9 months!  I am happy to say the least.  Just something to consider.

Just an update. I have such a bad case of new phone syndrome. The house is a mess, the grandkids are hungry, and all I want to do is play with this phone..

Just like a kid in a candy store, eh? Don't worry, you'll figure things out in a day. Plenty of time over the weekend tho take care of the house. Feed the grand kids though...
