still haven't tried memnochs link though. I think that was for root though right?

that was for getting root on the .18 update, you said you were on 16 and it sounds like you have root already....

if I do the update to 9.18, will that allow the phone to unlock under matts utility if I end up having to use memnochs root link that is specifically for 9.18?

this is where I am not sure....there were a bunch of different updates all in the same general timeframe.

But like I said, it sounds like you have root already

See if you have the SU app. I'm not sure which one Matt pushed.

right, I do have root. but the motoapocalypse app isn't unlocking....even though ive given it super user permissions.(it also says it has permissions in the SU app from matt, which answers your last question). what im saying is that since its not unlocking on this 9.16 version, why not just go ahead and install the update to 9.18 where memnoch has a root specifically for the 9.18 and then hope that matts utility works on that version since its not working on the 9.16.....my noob logic may be the death of me one day.....

we know the feeling. :) especially on the wifeys phone

I am not sure what to tell you. I THINK if you update to 18 you can still unlock. EDIT: This is incorrect. With 18 or 20 youre screwed.

yeah im going to have to wipe it again, it keeps shutting down after it reboots. it started doing that after I clicked install now for the 18. I suppose because the unlock was in there but not complete or something I don't know. so im just going to wipe, install 18, try and root with matts, and if not then ill use memnochs, then try and unlock again.

Don't install the update!!! .18 and .20 are different versions of the same thing. It will block unlock.

If you rooted with the Utility then you should be able to unlock. I only did the unlock once a few months ago. I don't really remember exactly how it works

Motopocalypse is an apk, so after rooting he ran it, SU asked for permissions and when he rebooted it still said Locked.

I did that exact thing before.....I rooted with the utility, then used the utility to unlock. opened his motopocalypse app, and gave it SU permissions. it had a little box that said after you give permissions, reboot and push the button again to make sure it worked. I can only assume he was talking about either the fastboot buttons or the "unlock bootloader" button in his app that I had to push originally to give the permissions. after I did all that, I rebooted, pushed the button and then my phone said the device was still LOCKED

in fact I know I did, because the root wouldn't have taken if It wasn't checked.
