im trying to get the timing of doing that right because it will not stay in fastboot long enough for the utility to run before it reboots into its cycle again

It's rebooting from fastboot?? That can't be good. I have never even heard of that happening... You may want to let it sit for a bit. You may be getting overheating reboots.

yeah I push the power button, up and down volume buttons, it goes to the menu....and not 3 or 4 seconds later it boots up without me doing anything......then starts that screen on/off cycle all over again and keeps popping up with the "unfortunately process.com.motorola.process.system is not working"

I think you want power and vol down to get to fastboot. All 3 buttons is a hard reboot

thats good now it need to see your phone......are you using the cable that came with the phone? it cant be a USB 3.0 port and do you have the latest drivers?

you can try and unplug and then re-plug the phone and see if it recognizes it.

I am using the usb it came with and I do have the latest drivers, and before all this started happening, the debugging was checked.

utility is still frozen after I unplugged and replugged. I know that if I just reboot it anyways it will start the cycle again. keeping it on this screen is the only way to keep it from cycling. also it started when I opened a security app that was for root only.....started with an L and had a G in there as well.....it allowed you to secretly disable permissions from apps that currently have them.

that shouldnt have anything to do with this. your pc isnt recognizing the phone. Usually thats the cable, the port or the drivers.

tried diff. ports too. nothing. but in matts utility, the 1.21, I try and start the utility and it says 'findstr.exe' is not recognized as an internal orexternal command, operable program or batch file.

Please make a selection and hit enter: ..................do I need to choose option 1 and wipe the system or option 2 and flash the recovery....im assuming option 1

Are you on Win8?? and yes you will most likely need Option 1 which adds wipe when it flashes the system

started option one.....about a millisecond after I read the part about backing up your computer too.......my wife may castrate me if her photos go away. im in ultimate fingers crossed mode right now. backed up my phone and stuff but the other utilities never said anything about backing up your computer for this. so I thought nothing of it....but oh well its already started.....just hope for the best I guess
