I have to agree... I especially with the camera remarks... The camera is very disappointing to me as I have a 2 year old running around the house and when I try to take a picture, even in decent lighting, it comes out super dark. I don't necessarily think it's hardware though, as it initially looks fine, but the auto focus kicks in almost immediately and drains all the light out of the shot. But, all in all, it beats the HD camera (with it's 15 second delay)

Other than the camera, I find this device to be excellent... And I'm coming from S4 and Note 2. I would have to say, benchmarks are lower than the S4 definitely, but in usage, the S4 has little stuttery lag spots that I have not seen on the Maxx. I am now wondering if I should go back to the S4 or listen to Nitro and get the One, lol

You hit the nail on the head.  This phone runs amazingly smooth...BUT... a few big "buts" in there for me (like the camera, and voice controls).  But I might also be checking out a Verizon HTC One at the moment (had one on Tmobile when it first came out for a brief stint).  I forgot how awesome this phone is.

I'm coming from the perspective of a heavy S4 user as well.  I'll tell you now that you'll constantly be disappointed in the pictures if you have a 2 year old.  Mine are 5.5, 4.5, and 22 months, and every single time I tried a Moto device over the past 2 years I ended up returning / exchanging b/c a big part of my life is catching photos/vids of those kiddos - it's a very important feature for me.  It's not for everybody obviously.

The irony is that the One does better than the Maxx in almost every scenario, despite the Maxx having similar technology and being 10mp.  The One is a very consistent experience with some cool features alongside quality photos.  But the S4's camera is still the best IMHO when it comes to pure picture quality.  I'm sure with the kiddos you'd be happy with either the One or S4.

The One's bootloader is currently unlockable and rootable - we'll see how long Verizon allows that to stay in place.  No S-Off yet, but for the first day on a new phone on Verizon, that's a good start!

I'm VERY tempted to stick with the One for awhile.  I love the S4, but the One is such a simple / clean experience.  It runs like the Maxx, with more features and a better camera.  Plus it's just a nice looking phone...

But because of the camera and the fact that I've come to believe the "ok google now" thing is a bit gimmicky and not so useful in most scenarios, I'll be putting my Maxx up for sale tonight most likely (can't exchange again at VZW...).

THIS.

Info from the smart people is there is no need for S-off due to a new way of unlock from the HTCDEV site. You can do everything without S-off

Oh really?  When I unlocked it earlier the process was identical to previous HTC devices... but I'm not a dev and don't really know much about the nuts and bolts of that stuff.  Would love it if that was the case!

Thanks for the head's up...

Also just noticed the One comes with a decent pair of buds.  The Tmo version didn't.  They're clearly Beats ripoffs but still sound pretty good.

Ok sorry, no more thread derailment...

imo...The screen on the Maxx looks better than the HTC One.  I stopped into Verizon last night to take a peak at the One.  Just sayin :D

The thing is #1-battery life. The S4 and the One both have tiny batteries compared to the Maxx...so it's almost a trade off...crappy camera + awesome battery or great camera + crappy battery lol. And I'm used to the note 2 which had great camera AND great battery life #2- we only get one return/exchange...so whatever I do, it has to be the thing I'll be happy with...although I could probably just sell the One online and buy an S4 if I don't like the One, or trade...lol Sent from my Droid Maxx using Tapatalk 2

That IS the tradeoff isn't it?  Seems like that's always the case... The Note 3 should be out soon shouldn't it?  Or was the size too much?

The One doesn't appear to be quite as good battery-wise as the GS4 (though close) - and takes forEVER to charge.  At least with the S4 you have a 2a charger that charges it really fast, and you have the option to swap out the battery if you have an extra.  But the One is just a nice freakin' device... and the camera provides some cool features like Zoe's and whatever you call the little slideshow/music montages that it can automatically create/upload/link to.

Can't say much more positive about the Maxx than has already been said. This is the 1st Droid I've owned, had 5 previous, that feels liquid smooth. There's been absolutely zero lag opening and closing apps, moving through home screens or anything else I've done.

Another awesome improvement is the battery. Still had 49% battery last night after being off the charger for 16 hours. That's with a little more than my normal usage, that I would say is moderate. But I also had GPS on the entire time and was using the hell out of hands free mode.

So far I have nothing bad to say about hands free. Whether I'm driving or or playing around with, "OK Google now" the phone has not skipped a beat. Just would have preferred a phrase better than OK Google now.

For better or worse, I'm loyal to Moto if for no other reason than build quality. All of my previous droids are Moto's, and I have enjoyed each one immensely but so far my Maxx is by far my favorite.

I just left the Note 2 great device great battery but to me the size got annoying. Went back to a i5 for a week and was hell. Now I have the Droid Maxx and I think i should be set for awhile. B)

Alrighty, so I got the MAXX and I have so many good things to say about it. But here I am on day 6 of owning it and I'm absolutely disgusted with the battery life. Every day I've been getting less than 10 hours on a full charge before it gets to about 2% and then I plug it in. Really disappointing considering we were promised 48 hours.

I didn't honestly expect 48 hours. But I certainly expected something closer to 24 or 36. Instead I'm getting 10. That's 20% of what's being promised.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm debating bringing it back because I feel like I may have a bad unit.

Other than this issue, I absolutely love the phone. Almost completely stock Android, some cool moto features, great screen, great camera (I think anyways), AMAZING speed and fluidity on the phone. Absolutely second to none when I put it next to any other offering.

Its the new droid max not razr maxx right? Your current devices list is confusing me because the razr maxx and max hd both have 3300 mah batteries

I would compare your battery usage to others here to help you figure out if your battery is bad before you return it. (Sorry, I don't have any screen shots to post to help out)

I can only say that with moderate usage I have 45 to 55 % battery remaining the end of each day.

I used to have the Droid Razr Maxx. Now I have the Droid Maxx, the new one released from Verizon on August 20 2013. It's brand new.

I used to get probably like 14 or so hours on my 2 year old Droid Razr Maxx. And now on my new Droid Maxx I get less than 10 consistently.

I use the phone a lot, certainly average to high usage, but I still feel like this phone should be performing much much better in the battery category.

Currently I've been using my phone for 3 hours and 58 minutes and I'm down to 59% battery.

So you have a rogue app, a bad battery or are sitting with your screen on 100% of the time. Your battery life will vary based on screen on time and what you are doing with it. I have seen several people show over 6 hours of screen on time with this phone.

So if you are watching movies non-stop, that may be normal and expected. If you are using your phone in a typical manner, something else is wrong.

I would say my screen is on about half the time the phone is on. I've had it on battery for 3 hours this morning and the screen has been on for 1.5 hours. Typically when I get done with my day the screen has been on for about 5 of the 10 hours.

I have every bloat app disabled. I frequently kill all running apps. My brightness is on auto. I never leave bluetooth, wifi, or gps on when it doesn't need to be. I don't game. I'm honestly at a loss. I text message a lot. That's pretty much it.

My understanding with the Maxx is that, over time it learns your using habits. Try using the phone "normally" and don't kill running apps. See if that helps.

On an 8 hour work day, I have GPS on the entire time as I spend most of my time driving. I also use the phone more than previous Droids I've owned, surfing, games, video, texting, and calls. After work my usage definitely increases but I tend to use wifi. There's days I never turn GPS off and I still end my day with over 40% battery.

Because I've never come close to running out of battery I've never tracked my on screen time or any other usage statistics. I'll try and keep an eye and post a screen shot. Hopefully we can help figure this out.

I've had the Maxx for 3 days now. Before that I had the razr maxx HD for 3 months, and the GS3 for a year before. The GS3 ran CM 10.1, so it was fast, no doubt, but constantly had to carry an extra battery with me.

The Razr Maxx HD was great at first, but after the screen cracked and they sent me a completely new unit (motorola), the phone would get very hot and slow to a crawl any time google search was used, or 4G was utilized.

My first impression of the Maxx is that i'm very impressed. The jump from 1GB to 2GB of RAM is definitely noticeable. The lack of SD is not a deal breaker for me, but I could see it being annoying to some. I;ve been an android fan since the droid pro. Ive used HTCs, samsungs, and several motorolas. The motos are my favorite by far.

The battery life on this Maxx is rediculous. I unplugged from charger Wed at 530am, watched 45 mins of netflix full brightness at the gym, went through 8hr workday, including several games of uno with friends, email and texting (hadnt figured out the texting via chrome on PC yet!), and then biked for an hr listening to Pandora and had map my ride (GPS app) going the whole time, and was at 50%

Just bought it not 40 mins ago(2:16PM Aug 31) Did my work around and I still have my unlimited plan. ** Maniacal laugh!**

I am absolutely loving this phone. Shake to camera, Flip for camera glace, active notifications.

The only con have noticed is

-The lack of the LED notification light. Which I understand is oppted out due the the active notifications.

-Gloss backing kevlar. I liked the matted black.

-Standard Verizon bloat :p

But other than that! Great phone!

Yet again. It isn't nessacary. But if you like my work or just want to be generous. Buy me a Monster. So I can stay up:P
