Hey I've been on the forums all night going through posts trying to figure this out but I'm exhausted so I'm going to ask after hours of trying and not being able to get my phone to load.

So here is what I did.

Phone was acting weird lately, like draining the battery quickly, not being able to turn off. So I tried a factory data reset and that didn't help.

I thought I would try flashing the stock firmware to do a os reinstall. It was my first time and I didn't backup. I don't even know how to do that... I tried to flash the latest firmware VZW_XT926_4.1.2_9.8.1Q_62_VQW_MR-2_VQW_RSD.xml and removed the getvar lines and I have been getting this error. update tz version failed preflash validation failed for tz. I would greatly appreciate if anyone knows if there is a way I can fix this. phone is locked and never been rooted. I liked the software so never cared to mess with it.

The only screens I can get to are fastboot, boot mode selection menu, and recovery.

If you need me to provide anymore info I'll get back with you as soon as I can. Getting ready to go to work now...

Again thank you if you can give me any in site. I'm hoping I didn't permanently break my phone.

I would recommend using the Utility

. That should get you back up and running...

Oh I forgot to mention that I tried that utility and one other but I'm at work so I can't say which one it was and they both gave me an error. I'll post the error when I get home and I get a chance to try it again.

And after running both programs the phone now says

fastboot reason: sticky bit factory_fastboot

I ran the stock recovery and it seems to run on the computer end with out failure but hasn't made a difference on the phone.

Recovery still starts up but haven't figured out anything I can do from it to fix the issue.

Ok, I manage to get rid of that error, now just getting boot failure. Tried the utility first and getting same errors and then tried rsd lite and getting same errors from that as well as before. Getting Boot Failure after trying the utility but now I do get the M in the red circle at first boot before the fastboot screen.

Try the following:

o) Make sure you have the latest USB driver installed (google for Motorola USB driver)

o) Make sure you are using the original USB cable that came with your phone (it matters)

o) Try a different USB port and/or a different PC

Thanks samurai but still not loading past fastboot.

Grabbed my motorola cable, I was using a hard drive cable.

I uninstalled motorola device manager and installed it again after re downloading it. it's version 2.4.3 and the rsd lite i'm using is version 6.1.4

I was only getting to step five and now I'm getting to step 6 and it's failing.

Failed flashing process. 6/24 flash partition "gpt_main0.bin" -> phone returned FAIL

I've removed the getvar from the xml and also tried an xml that was posted here

I couldn't find the tz line, maybe it's removed already in this one and I removed gpt_main0 and now i get failed flashing process boot.img

no longer booting to motorola M, just loaded straight to fastboot. Oh and I also change usb ports. I don't have another computer though

Wait.  I'm concerned now.  What FXZ are you flashing?  And this is an xt926, right?  Not an xt925?  I want the link to the FXZ you downloaded.

So I'm removing the lines as they fail now. also had to remove system.img and then it finished.

now it's saying on the phone

partition (boot) security version downgraded

fastboot reason: boot failure

I know I'm using the latest firmware though, downloaded it again tonight since i've been home form work to make sure...... i'm getting the motorola M before fastboot again.

ok just got your last message, link to what i'm downloading, phone says xt926 on the back.

Ok, I can fix this now.  You're NOT using the latest.  MR4 is an old version.

That's the latest.  And because you're locked, you can't downgrade which is why the flashes are failing.  Alrighty.  Remove the get_var lines from that one and flash it.  That should get you back up and running.

Yea, I owned an xt926 for a few months and wrote the House of Moto util, so, I've got a bit of experience with this stuff.  You'll be up and running soon.  Use Motochopper 1.3 to root it when you're done.  But you can't unlock it, sadly.  You should also consider reading through my House of Moto thread and get that set up for future use.  Just to save you from this headache again if something goes wrong.
