So I just grabbed a SGS3 off of Craigslist yesterday and I have had the worst service so far. Coming from a RAZR Maxx where I had great service and constant 4g this is almost unbearable. I constantly cannot send text messages and the lockscreen usually says "Searching for Service". My internet is usually 3g, never 4g but will drop down to 1x occasionally. I am rooted and have an unlocked bootloader but have not flashed a ROM yet. I did flash the HD Modem though, but it does not seem to help. Any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you can't send a text message, which doesn't require a data signal - you are in trouble. You might have bought a bad phone.

Unless they are group messages, beyond character limit, or picture messages... which most people call text messaging without knowing the difference. Just short simple text (think Twitter) = SMS fits into overhead in CDMA/GSM cellular communications and is actually free for the carrier to transmit as a result, longer/group/picture = MMS requires data to transmit.

Well they are definitely sms, and it is only sometimes, usually it works, but I never have more than 2 bars of service and will get no service in some places where I was fine on my maxx.

Well I followed DirtyDroid's "Back to Stock" guide and reflashed the stock to my phone and the problem still persists. You can see here at the top of the screenshot that it says "searching for service". A little earlier it said "roaming" and I'm still having problems sending texts. I have no idea what else to try other than flashing a ROM, but I can't get any of them to flash either. Out of 3 the only one I got to install was Blackbean, but it hung at boot and after about 15 minutes i retried it but the same thing happened. I'm out of ideas here...

You've purchased a defective product.

Did you try a new sim? If I'm wrong sorry. I went through an update and several phones. It end up really just that one area I was in. People weren't happy I went through 3 or 4 but things have been good so far.

I've only used the sim that was in my razr. I'm going to call Verizon now and see what they have to say.

That's one of the first things they try and push if its gonna work or not. Figure its free so give it a shot.

Well I got the new sim card and I had perfect service and 4g until I got back to my campus. I'm wondering if it is something to do with the radio in the phone because of this. I do get great service here with my RAZR.

There are many radios(basebands) you can download. The newest is HE.. latest OTA. seems to be the strongest yet. Search out verizon I535 VRLHE.. youll find it. You have to be rooted. unless you are already on the latest stock OTA, then you have it already..

Unless you said something i would have never known there was an update. Checked when i got the phone which wasnt to long ago. I am now on the VRLHE radio.
