No Moto X DE but maybe the reason why is a Droid Maxx Nexus for VZW... Just speculating.

Some bad news on the Moto X+1 came out last night through Google+ from none other than Punit Soni. When a post was made asking him if there would be a Dev Edition of the Moto X+1, the answer receive was a shocking and disappointing one. Punit Soni responded to the question quickly by saying "unfortunately no".

There was no further explanation made by Punit and the only other response he made in the post was asking if everyone participating was on VZW.

With the success of the Moto X this is a shocking turn. I'm not sure how many Dev Ed Moto X devices were sold for Verizon but I would have imagined that even more would have been sold for this time around now that people have a taste of what this device brings.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you care that no Dev Ed will be available?

I'd like this, but, NO.  Just NO.  Screw you, VZW.  So glad I'm on a different network.

As Sam would say..."Why am i not surprised by this"TM

It wouldn't matter anyway.  No root.  So even if you had safestrap, you'd have no way of using it.  Without unlocking, Moto devices are now write protected so root is much more difficult.  This is what a few of us have been saying would happen for a long time, and we were criticized and dismissed as naysayers and pessimists.  It's not that it can't be done, it's that the barriers to doing it are getting harder and harder each round.  As such, there's not a lot of motivated and talented people out there working on it.  If you care about root and/or roms, a Moto X 2014 on VZW is NOT the phone for you.

Those flockin male offspring of unwed mothers!! This was not the way to start out a Monday, especially after spending a fair portion of Friday reading up on the new X and psyching my self up to spend the bucks to get it once it was available. I really like my X and I liked what I read about the second generation version but without being able to unlock and root, I don't think the phone can live up to its true potential. No custom ROMs, no Xposed or Gravitybox, no TIBU or any of the other apps that need root to work, not a good thing. I did do an evaluation of various cell providers as part of a project for work and ATT did seem to be a viable option even in BFE so it may be time to get off my complacent glutteous maximus and get a SIM for ATT and plug it into my current X and see if their network will be up to the daily grind (I know I wont get all the LTE bands, but it should show me if voice, SMS and basic data will work) and if thing look good, so long VZW since my contract expired with them several months ago and I'm only sticking around due to the unlimited data.

As one of the few who were trying to maintain loyalty to Moto, this announcement seals it for me (goodbye Moto) I think I'll login to my rarely used G+ account and tell them so (not that they care so much since the yard sale). And for another thing I'm also on my last nerve with vzw, we all had hopes that Google might get into the carrier game, but now I think they might be as ruthless as big (evil) red is. I'm considering 'turning Amish'  that would solve the whole thing in one fell swoop.  (hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil) lol.

The problem isn't Moto, it's VZW.  The Pure Experience is available for all other carriers.

So here's my thoughts on options for the VZW crew wanting their next phone unlocked and wanting it from Moto:

1)  Switch to a different carrier that knows what people want these days and carries the "pure" unlocked version.

2)  Wait on the X 2014 to see what Motorola's "Shamu" phone is - supposedly it's the Nexus X (don't Nexii come unlocked?), supposedly VZW is planning to carry it.

3)  Wait on the next phone purchase to see if the X 2014 can be unlocked - apparently it's just been done on the MAXX, Ultra, Mini, X, and G on VZW's network.

#2 isn't a bad option, pending the Nexus is unlocked, VZW doesn't plan to screw everyone over and only offer some sort of bastard locked version, the phone comes in the 5.2-5.5 size range, and comes with all the bells and whistles that Motorola added to the new X 2014.

I don't believe the Nexus on vzw rumor. At all. Until I see it for sale no one is going to convince me it'll happen ever again until cdma is dead and buried. Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk

I fully feel ppls frustration on this ordeal. Kinda hogwash on VZW's part playing hardball with Moto yet again. That said I'm stuck on what to do myself as I've about had it with the VZW corp policy of playing hardball on our devices. Luckily tho in my case I'll be stuck with VZW for my work line but personally I can do as i wish. And currently alreyad having an unlocked device on VZW with an unlimited line still I see no reason to do anything. I think my plan now is to take my spare unlocked VZW X and go grab a T-Mob prepaid sim and toss it in there and give them a whirl to see how service is in the area. If it works for my needs on a spare line then VZW is no longer getting my $$ moving forward.

FYI to all tho, i have had word there will be a new VZW device that will be sold as Dev edition at some point soon supposedly. But without there new line of Droids being talked about yet I have not gotten word on what it may be.
