First, wanted to confirm that the last I read (either here or XDA, forget where) still stands... on the XT926 there is no way to edit the IMEI of the phone.  It is in a write protected area of the NV memory.  Even rooted or bootloader unlocked it is still untouchable.  Only possibility to edit it would be if somehow it doesn't exist (no NV item 550) which may be something that could have occurred with a bad flash.

Now, providing that is the case... (if different please point me in the right direction!)  I'm going to deviate from XT926 specific questions for the moment.

I've got an XT926 and XT926M that I had recently picked up as parts.  Haven't tried powering up the mainboards but they certainly aren't in good shape.  One definitely can't be used as areas of the board itself are cracked, the other *might* be salvageable but I'm sure not counting on it.  These things look like they've been stoned, and I'm not talking in the "hey, I'm taking a vacation to Colorado!" way.  But, they've got clean ESNs and I pulled the IMEI stickers off the LCD frames before tossing those.  For devices were the IMEI can be edited, would these clean IMEIs be something of value that I might be able to sell and recoup some of my costs?  Is that even legal?  (only expecting armchair legal advice here, nothing I would expect to use if I had to go to court)  Done much searching but just keep finding info with the right keywords, wrong subject.

To me just the idea of buying a "clean" imei is shady at best, something I personally, strongly suggest to stay clear of. It's Only opening the door for potential serious legal issues.

Yeah, what I was wondering about but luckily I'd be on the seller side.  Since posting I did gamble and hooked the boards up to a PC via a programming (pin 1 to 4) cable and got nothing detected.  Not going to muck around with them much more in hopes of them being used, may just try for some practice hot air soldering so I'm prepared to work on my good boards if I ever need to do something like replace the USB port.  But since they're just escrap to me now I *could* sell them with the IMEI info included... All I'd be doing is selling a problem board that genuinely has (possibly if someone can read the chip, otherwise *had*) an associated IMEI that is known to be clean.  What they do from there is up to them.

All aboard for Shadytown!
