Okay, got a headbanger here. I've searched through this forum, on XDA, and on Google, yet have not found a solution to my problem. If I've missed something, I apologize in advance and would be super appreciative to be pointed in the right direction.

Everything on my XT926 works just fine, except the screen. When I first boot the phone, the screen works for a split second, then stays black the whole time, until the next reboot, where the screen will again work (showing the droid logo), then go blank immediately. This happens upon normal boot, and also when holding down the volume keys while powering up. When the OS loads, the rest of the phone works fine. I can touch the screen and use it, and even the HDMI works and I can see what I'm doing while the phone is on and I'm touching the dead screen.

I was running the 183.46.10 build and had unlocked and rooted the phone using the method here:

After successfully unlocking and rooting the phone, after a few months, I took the phone out of my pocket (no impacts or spills) and the screen was black. Phone was on and working, but the screen was blank. When I powered the phone off and on, I saw the screen work for a split second, then the screen went blank as the phone booted up.

I've tried to factory reset the phone using the HDMI cable plugged into a TV to see what the heck I was doing, but the screen still acts the same. Has anyone seen this before, or can anyone help me with this? Is this a software issue since the screen works briefly upon startup? Please help!

It does indeed sound like a software issue.... Its possibly an app running in the background that is causing it or it could be a display driver..... it could also be a faulty proximity sensor...... I would try using Sam's house of Moto for a complete "nuke and repave" (flash back to 100% stock) ..... If its a software issue, that should fix it.... :)

Thanks for the speedy reply! I guess a display driver would make sense. The screen conks out so quickly upon boot I didn't think any software was loaded at that point. I'll try Sam's House of Moto tonight through the link you provided (Thanks!).

Is there a FXZ version you would recommend over the others?

Also, with the dead screen, I'm not sure about getting into AP Fastboot mode. I looked on YouTube for videos of people doing it so I can try it blind... Found one video where someone did, and it looked like his fingers did the following:

1) Press and hold Vol+ and Vol-

2) Press Power until phone turns on, then release power

3) Release Vol+ and Vol-

4) Press Vol- twice

5) Press Vol+

Can anyone confirm this is correct and will get me into AP Fastboot where I can flash a FXZ file? Last thing I want to do is fub this phone, since at the moment I can at least use it as a portable HDMI media player. I also edited my first post to clarify the HDMI output only works when the phone is booted up and running.

Yes..... That method should easily get you into fastboot mode..... As far as the FW version... I would try the latest one first.... Being unlocked, if you don't like it you can always downgrade (via the house of moto) :);)
