Sweet. There was a topic in the TF701 threads at XDA about doing just that. That should help.

So tomorrow's the big day. I kinda wish I still had a Gnex so I could try this out on a phone. Imma flash it to my N7, but I think I'm gonna be missing out on some stuff since it's a tablet and not a phone...Wait, what am I talking about? I don't want a GNex again. I would, however plop this on a N4 and run it on Tmo for a bit.

I was able to get my hands on the images and files before the Ubuntu server started getting HAMMERED. So if anyone wants the Nexus 7 ones, I've uploaded them

The word is "wait". This software is not even close to daily driver ready. It's Super Alpha. I could probably list what works easier than what doesn't. The preview they showed us before they released it is NOT the software they finally released. It's still very, very broken. Go ahead and pick up a gnex, why not? You can crack flash away on that in the mean time. But Ubuntu mobile? No thank you. It's NOT ready.

Also, if you're on VZW, to the best of my knowledge, the VZW Gnex won't connect to VZW's data network. Only the GSM devices are working. (to the best of my knowledge)

Thanks for the heads up. I started actively researching it and am extremely disappointed.

It's basically a glorified android skin at this point. It's built off a stripped CM base and runs off an android kernel.

Edit: looks like the cm base is just to make it more portable which is most definitely desired. A lot of stuff is broken though, like you were saying.

hope this will get true. till now ubuntu os is pre-alpha. but it would be nice to have a phone with sudo(root) and for updating only do a apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade.

'cause am a Fedora guy. Guess won't be testing this OS unless its pre-installed in a phone and I can play with it at VZW store.

So I just had this crazy idea. If Ubuntu is going mobile, BackTrack is based off of Ubuntu, so when will BackTrack be mobile? Now that could be a scary idea... awesome for people that know how to use but scary for the mobility of such networking tools.

A more correct way to put it is Android runs off a Linux kernel. Nothing special about an Android kernel, it's simply a Linux kernel configured a certain way. What makes Android Android is the Dalvik Virtual Machine, which is software that runs on top of the kernel, not kernel based. In theory, Ubuntu Touch should perform better than Android once it is actually ready for primetime, simply because it does not run apps on a VM.

Looks like some official versions of the Mobile OS are supported on the Nexus brand devices, some have gotten the OS onto the XT926, although from reading it appears not all functionality is there, I know we have some of the best devs out there searching this sight, lets get  a full blow Ubuntu OS for the razr line up!
