I found after changing my XT926 JellyBean LCD Density from the default 320 to 230, 99.99% of Play Store apps no longer showed in the search results. After doing some research, I found a lot of posts mentioning the app "LCD Density Modder Pro" which does work well on ICS and below... but not on JB. Due to the lack of information I was able to find for a JellyBean fix, I wanted to share what I found.

It is possible to still have full Play Store functionality at a lower dpi; however, the three dpi values known to fully work are: 240 (HDPI), 160 (MDPI), and possibly 120 (LDPI)... which are the standard dpi values for previous Android OS's, and therefore previous versions of the Play Store/Google Market.

From my experience, using anything other than these will prevent you from accessing 99.99% of Play Store search results, as well as possiblly causing compatibility issues with apps, preventing you from downloading and installing the app itself, or updates to said apps. However, after some more finagling with my phone, I've gotten 180 to work successfully with the Play Store, but 200 does not. So my hypothesis is that when the dpi changes the layout to tablet mode, this is acceptable and will work with the play store; but when the dpi is lower than 240 in phone mode, the Play Store doesn't function properly. I'm not sure what the exact value of when it switches from phone to tablet mode, but on the XT926 Maxx HD, it's somewhere in between 180dpi and 200dpi. I hope this gives others some more info at the very least.

The only webpage I was able to find that gave this information was:

This may very well be common knowledge, however I was unable to find any other webpage that mentioned any work around for JellyBean LCD Density values.

I tried both when it was suggested on rootzwiki.

What device are you using?

Frustrating issue, but here's a fix. I can personally vouch for it too since I'm running at 245 DPI.

One quick note, I have the pro not the standard, but it seems to fix the issue the same.

Do NOT use that app to set your LCD Density, that will brick you. Set your DPI via he build.prop, and use that app to "Fix Market Compatibility Issues". It contains all the steps within.

And you're using an XT926?

Once I hear back I'll give it a go, I was just under the impression that isn't a fix on newer devices due to two reason, one being the play store version as the version on the app is 3.5 vs the most current 3.10 and there was another reason that I can't recall that was listed in a thread on rootzwiki. If this way you've figured out works, that's awesome =] Can you answer a few questions when you have time?

When you first access play store and you get the Play Store homepage, does it list 5 categories, or 3?

If you search "Google" from the homepage, does it show close to, or over, a million results in the upper left hand corner? When you select the apps category for the "Google" search result, does an entire page of apps load that continually loads more as you scroll down?

Thanks a bunch :-)

Indeed it is an XT926.

My Play Store lists Apps, Music, Books, Movies, and Games. Not sure if these are the same five categories on yours, but I've taken a

so you can compare. Not even exactly sure what the official play store looks like to be honest haha.

Searching for google yields about 878 thousand results under the apps. I wish I knew the prior result to this search. The only real testing I've done is searching for apps which I knew were compatible before the adjustment, and were incompatible after the adjustment. The apps do continuously scroll downwards though.

EDIT: Two more things to note. The app makes a backup of your play store which can be restored should something go wrong.

And also

is a modded play store apk that I just remembered hearing about. I'm not currently on a rom so I can't flash this, but if you know what to do with it, I figured it can't hurt to link it to ya.
