I have a 2 1/2 yr old Verizon Razr Maxx HD running KK 4.4.2.  I'm looking at new phones, specifically Droid Turbo and Samsung S6.  I find the signal strength of the Maxx HD superior to all the phones I've look at so far.  I compared signal against various Samsung and Motorola phones and a Sony Xperia.  I found using the Network Signal Info App that the Maxx HD is 9~15dBm stronger which is very significant in a radio.  I also find that my old phone at bandwidthplace.com has upload data rates that are 2~5x faster than new phones and 2~7x faster upload speed.

Why is this?

Is the Maxx HD a better circuit than todays phones?  When I'm simply using the newer phones, it's noticeable that my phone is faster at surfing the web after cache is cleared each phone is starting with a clean slate/no history.  Employees at the store compared my older phone to their personal phones and found mine hands-down faster.  I really want a new phone with the nicer display, but it appears my phone is superior in radio performance and web surfing speed.

Does anyone have a similar experience or can help me understand this?  I'm convinced after going to three verizon stores and running the same tests that my phone is faster and has a better radio.  Could this be true and new phones by Lenovo/Motorola and Samsung have lousy radios?

I'm a heavy user for my work.  I'm always sending a receiving datasheets and schematics with engineers and up/down-load a lot.  I want a phone at least as fast as mine with a better screen.

Thanks,

Look at the Nexus 6 by motorola. It was designed prior to Lenovo. But the Turbo was also come to think of it, they are based on the same chipsets.
