I'd recommend trying out my utility to root it then. Use it to go to stock 6.11.748, update normally to 173, then use it to root and you will be error free. Also wipe data/factory reset before rooting with my utility.Im new to learning about rooting and what not on my phone. I had it rooted before my phone updated and now the root seems to have been lost. I've been trying to figure out how to re-root it but I keep getting errors. I know I'm doing something wrong...I just need to know what. This is the error..

The phone updated without your permission? Is this preventable?

Hi Matt,
I'm looking to root for the first time and curious what the "wipe data/fatcory reset" clears?
will I lose all my 3rd party apps, contacts etc.?
Also I must be on .173 to root or can I root on .176?
Thanks
Tim

Is there a link for your tool? I really hate to be a bother but I like the options I have with my phone being rooted. Lol

I think we need to pay this guy to unlock the Moto Bootloader. Some one should contact him and we should start a fund for that!
I'll donate $500 to that. A little less what I paid for my GSM Droid Razr.

I ended up copying five files from the Motofail folder: busybox, motofail, run.bat, su and Superuser.apk to my Android-sdk\platform-tools\ folder. I then ran run.bat as an Adminstrator and everything went off without a hitch. Yay!!!
But please, can someone tell me why it worked. I would really like to use this as a learning experience because I just spent a frustrating 8 hours or so fussing with this.
Thanks guys!
