So here are my thoughts. The new "language" policy is awesome for those with no common sense and those of us who get a little bit caught up with all the BS we have to put up with... so naturally a language filter might be a good step to buffer against inappropriate language making its way into the forums.

This, however, was not my intention behind starting this thread. I would like to, instead, start a conversation about what words would be most funny to replace the bad ones. Personally, I think "shenanigans" would be hilarious. Another site (you might know which) uses "tushy" instead of its expletive brother.

What do you guys think would be funny if you designed your own language filter?

I vote for shenanigans and fluffy.

On my old site we had the filter set up so insults were turned into expressions of love haha. Took forever to get all the variations and misspellings in though

I've seen more than one forum ruined by this kind of creeping nannyism combined with heavy-handed moderation, and I'm sorry to see it starting here. I oppose it and don't intend to humor it. I know how to behave myself. I do not attack others, and I expect the same from others. The idea that we should conduct ourselves as if eight year old children in pajamas are listening with their ears cupped to the door is absurd. Think hard before you implement policies that could result in your most productive developers taking their skills elsewhere.

I'm not a big fan of it either. I understand it, but don't always think that its a perfect alternative to real parenting... but the point of this thread isn't to appeal to mods one way or the other regarding filters but rather poke a bit of fun at the nonsensical and sometimes humorous transformation from explicit to rainbows...

All in good fun. Every now and then its good to say some stupid shenanigans... :-P
