don't know if this is already widely known, but you can make a "/system/media/wallpapers" directory and add your own wallpapers, and they'll show up in the stock wallpaper gallery.
you need to include a thumbnail named exactly like the wallpaper with a "_small" extension, for example:
wallpaper.jpg
wallpaper_small.jpg
the nice thing about this as opposed to just storing them on the sdcard is that the image is auto sized to the screen.
