01. Click the "Here" link located on Step 03 of the guide
02. On the new page, there will be a box that says "No preview available" and will include a "Download" button. Click the "Download" button.
03. You will then be warned that the file size is too large to scan for viruses. Underneath this warning is a link saying "Download anyway." Click this link.
04. Your computer should then open a download window, save as normal.

first problem, after rooting, once i open superuser and try to update it, it force close.
then after upgrading to JB i get an error that motorola services are stopped, and when i click system update to get the latest OTA i receive a message that motorola account is needed to get the update, any advice?? i stopped there to not do anything wrong, i am just thinking to ignore that error and try to update from recovery but worry to do it
thanks in Advance

Did you do step 42, the "wipe data, factory reset" step? This cleared up the force closing of Motorola services for me.

Wanted to extend thanks for your clear and thorough write-up.
I recently moved from a Razr Maxx to the Razr Maxx HD. It was updated to 4.1.1 and I wanted to root it before the OTA upgrade to 4.1.2.
I tried to do it in a hurry last week with inadequate prep and inadequate info. I wasn't able to flash the phone back to 4.04 and postponed the effort until last night.
Your write-up is an excellent resource and I'm glad to report that I'm running a rooted 4.1.2 this morning.
I did have to take one detour in order to successfully get back to 4.04.
I ran into trouble getting the DROID RAZR HD Utility 1.10 to successfully execute step 1 (flashing back to 4.04).
Typically I would get script error messages with a bunch of "cannot load" errors like:
error: cannot load 'sbl1.mbn'
I tried several things including:
- running the .bat file in regular user mode (not as an administrator)
- running the .bat file as administrator
- running the .bat file in an elevated command prompt
- using a different USB cable and USB port
- rebooting the Win 7 x64 PC and the phone
What finally worked for me was to do a factory reset on the Droid Razr Maxx (and re-enable USB debugging).
Once in a factory reset state and in AP Fastboot mode, I was able to run the .bat file (without administrator privileges) successfully.
Many thanks,
sminar
