Cool! Just finished doing this on my HD MAXX that came with Jellybean already installed. Couldn't be easier. Revert, root, restore.

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

Ran utility, back on ICS 4.0.4
I am stuck on # 21-
19. Tap Volume Down once and tap the Power Button once to highlight then select "apply update from external storage"
20. Scroll to the first firmware update (0.7.2) and tap the Power Button to select it
21. Scroll to "Yes" and tap the Power Button to select it- There is no "YES"

My options are:

Meta-Inf
modem
patch

You unzipped the update. You should be picking the zip not the folder.

TY...I did figure that out after a few hours...be nice it the original post was edited to say that for people like me that are limited in expertise. Once I figured that out, I did get a little further but after installing both of the above from external sd card...I am stuck on v 0.7.2 Android version 4.0.4

Awesome guide.

Tried this a couple of nights ago after a bunch of reading and wish I'd found your guide that night as I spent a long time on it and used the ota updates and ended up not having root after final update. Just completed and I'm on full JB with root, so I'm stoked, thanks for the help.

a couple suggestions/observations.

At option 6 it's not just usb with debugging it's booted into fastboot mode Hold down both volume and power keys while booting and choose fastboot with down volume and execute with up volume, or at least that's what seemed to be required for me.

between 8 and 9 you have to re-enable usb debugging, maybe because I chose to do a full wipe during the downgrade to 4.0.4..

I did not have to do 21 or 33, scrolled to the update highlighted, hit power and they started no scrolling to yes and selecting

How about adding a thought re option 4 (safestrap) from the central tool, what it does and when/if one should add it to the process?

Thanks

Safe strap is not needed unless you want ROMs
It screws up to many people
Glad you got it. Good deal

Do it now you may not be able to later

Glad you got it. Good deal
And yes you need a full wipe to be sure everything
Is clean like when doing a new copy of windows
No old junk laying around

Do it now you may not be able to later

I am having a similar error on that step.

Razormax HD, Set to 4.04 via matts utlity.
System Version 0.6.25XT926

I select the zip file and get:

qe 1/1

--Install /sdcard....

Finding Update
Opening
Verifying
Installing Update...
Assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop","ro.build.fingerprint") == motorola/xt926_verizon (etcetera)

Installation Aborted

When I try the other firmware update and I get an error about file signature. I thought one or both of the files might have gotten corrupted so I tried to DL them again.

(I also don't get a "yes" confirmation it just starts installing)

Did I miss a step?

Thanks so much for all these instructions -- purchased a used Razr HD and now it is fully rooted and running jellybean. Just saw news that another update is coming out in the next few weeks -- hopefully we can apply the same process to this one!!!

It's been a bit since I did it, but I'll edit steps 21 and 33 since people say they don't have to confirm, I just don't remember anymore and I'm not redoing to just to check (I'll put in something like "this step may not be necessary" there). As far as SafeStrap, I haven't used it at all yet. That is why I did not include instructions for installing it.

Also, as it was just announced today, the next update for the Razr HD is about to start pushing, build 9.16.6. I'll update this post only after root is confirmed for this build. With it being a bunch of patches, root access might be broken. So, when it starts pushing, if you wanna test it, be my guest and let me know if it works. Otherwise, until root is verified on the build, this post will remain as is.

At step 21 I was having an error message: failed to verify whole-file signature

I was able to get past it by using the OTA update to get back to 7.2

Thanks for this post!

I can confirm that this will work on the new update that was released for download today. I downloaded with the link from Droid Life and did the same steps as before (temp unroot), install update from recovery, reroot with Vodoo and update su binary) All is well and I am running the new update and rooted with no issues. I am stock w/o safestrap installed.

:)

Until it can get fixed, I've changed the "

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

" link for the 0.7.2 download to the correct file on my Google Drive account.
To Download the complete file:
1. Open the link in a new page
2. At the top of the page, you will see the name of the file (Blur_Version.0.6.25.XT926.Verizon.en.US.zip), right below this, click on the word "File"
3. This brings up a menu, click on "Download"
4. Save the file, move to your phone,
5. Continue to follow the rest of the directions. The mirror for the other update (version 9.1.41) is correct.

Do you have the md hash for this or is it on the download page? Didn't see it. Thanks.

Hello. It would seem that if you try and start this process once you've already upgraded to 4.1.2 (JB) then it is impossible to downgrade even using Matt's tool to do 4.0.4. unless you've already rooted? It gets a couple failed things but completes anyways... I can't figure out how to do it -- every time it boots up, it just restarts into 4.1.2.

Thanks

That's probably why Matt said don't use his utility if you've taken the 4.1.2 update.
