Hey all thanks for having me. Im new to flashing on the Maxx so can someone piint me into the right direction to find ROMs compatible with the Maxx. I feel so dumb cuz i wasted hours trying to flash a custom ROM for Razr M last night / this morning thinking the M stood for Maxx and kept getting failed error messages, lol.

It depends mostly on personal preference really, but I flashed all the ROMs for the jb leak on my old maxx for at least a couple days each, and I couldn't find one I didn't like. Every dev here kicks rear end, and the ROMs show it. I would suggest checking screenshots and features of each ROM, and then seeing which one jumps out at you. Give each one a couple days, you'd be surprised how much battery life can improve if given enough time to settle in. To sum it up, take your time, flash a few different ROMs and see what suits you most. It'll be a fun ride whichever way you go.

I've updated to 98.72.16.XT912 and Android 4.1.2 in the last few days. I'm interested in rooting the phone, but am confused by the various descriptions of what to do and whether they work with this version of the system. I want to make sure it will work before I start, and also know how to unroot if I need to do so.

Thanks! I checked this video out. One thing is that I have the OTA that came out this past week, with the build date of Feb 1. Can I assume that this will work equally well with this "new" version of JB?

I tried it and it failed. The phone seems to be working fine. There is no root, however. Here is the log:
[*]
[*] Razr Blade: Motorola Droid Razr 4.1 Root Exploit (Windows version)
[*] by Dan Rosenberg (@djrbliss)
[*]
[*] Thanks to p3droid for assistance in testing.
[*]
[*] Note: this will not work on Razr HD, Razr M, etc.
[*]
[*] Before continuing, ensure USB debugging is enabled, that you
[*] have the latest Motorola drivers installed, and that your phone
[*] is connected via USB.
[*]
[*] Please carefully follow any instructions provided in the exploit.
[*]
[*] Press enter to root your phone...
Press any key to continue . . .
[*]
[*] Waiting for device...
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
[*] Device found.
[*] Phase one...
[*] Rebooting device...
[*] Waiting for phone to reboot.
[*] Phase two...
[*] Complete the following steps on your device:
[*] 1. Open the Smart Actions application.
[*] 2. Select "Get Started".
[*] 3. Select "Battery Saver".
[*] 4. Select "Save".
[*] 5. Press the Home button.
[*]
[*] Press enter here once you have completed the above steps.
Press any key to continue . . .
25 KB/s (3477 bytes in 0.133s)
[*] Rebooting device...
[*] Waiting for phone to reboot.
[*] Phase three (this will take a minute)...
failed on '/data/logger' - Permission denied
mkdir failed for /data/logger, File exists
Unable to chmod /data/logger: Operation not permitted
link failed File exists
[*] Rebooting device...
[*] Waiting for phone to reboot.
[*] Phase four...
689 KB/s (91992 bytes in 0.130s)
2498 KB/s (1867568 bytes in 0.730s)
1781 KB/s (574184 bytes in 0.314s)
734 KB/s (63838 bytes in 0.084s)
[*] Cleaning up...
/system/bin/sh: su: not found
[*] Rebooting...
[*] Exploit complete!
[*] Press any key to exit.
Press any key to continue . . .

So my conclusion is (1) that I did something wrong (I use the USB Camera setting) or (2) this exploit doesn't work with the latest JB update with a build date of Feb 1.

I changed the USB to Media setting with the same error:
....
[*] Phase three (this will take a minute)...
failed on '/data/logger' - Permission denied
mkdir failed for /data/logger, File exists
Unable to chmod /data/logger: Operation not permitted
link failed File exists
...
later it says
/system/bin/sh: su: not found

Any suggestions?

The problem I see is exactly as others have seen it [in the Razr Blade forum] and it seems to only be solved by wiping the phone. The problem is that the "Smart Actions" app apparently needs to be pristine for it to work and I was using the "Smart Actions" app already so it wasn't pristine. The only way I know of making it pristine is to wipe the phone. There was to option to remove updates to my "Smart Actions" and some data such as a location couldn't be removed. I'll let you know how this turns out. I've had no problems with the JB update itself.

Wiping the phone allowed the exploit to work just fine. This exploit seems to depend on a vanilla system configuration at least for Smart Actions. I'm now rooted.

Hello everybody, it's good to be here; I hope I've found a place where I can learn.
It took me a whole day of trial, error and failure for me to get here. I usually can
figure my way through something that I need to get done, but I've hit a brick wall;
no pun intended. I have a Razr Maxx stock Gingerbread and I'm trying to upgrade
my way up to Jelly Bean. I've spent most of the day trying to get ICS, I keep getting
update notifications, I download it but the installation always fails after about 25%
installation and then reboots to let me know that it failed.

Flashing zip file updates from SD card has not worked.

I have the follwoing, but from what I've read, I need one more piece to the puzzle;
a Droid Razr Utility 1.7 or 1.6 at best. I've read about Matt whose made this program
and has helped a lot of people. I hope I can learn something about this. I'm new to
all of this but I'm pretty good at following instructions.

Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip (on sd card)

md5.zip (on my laptop)

Any help would be appreciated, my girlfriend has a Nexus phone with JB and her son
has a Razr Maxx that they put JB on in the verizon store and he is getting updates.
I went to the Verizon store as well and all they did was attempt two OTA updates that failed.

Thanks

Help

Thanks

How can you still be on GB? I thought we were all on ICS by now. Matt Groff of this site has a number of utilities that you should be able to use to get from where you are to JB with or without root. Look under the Development heading. You download the utility to your PC, upzip the file on your PC, install the drivers on your PC, and then run the application with the bat file on your PC. You don't copy anything to your phone or SD card. The utility does all of that for you.
