What about if it's done like the unbrick utility for the old razr where it tattoos and update is immediately applied?

- OTA Rootkeeper does retain root.
- Oh my god. Finally the lag beast is gone. Stuttering on the home screen is gone for the most part and just general operation is much smoother. My OG RAZR is no longer faster than my my HD... Memory management is much better as apps that used to slow the phone to a crawl over time no longer do so. Notification shade no longer stutters. This was the one major thing I wanted out of the next update and I got it.
- Call quality is indeed better. Louder and clearer. Noticeably so.
- Camera is better but it still isn't going to be blowing you away.
- Face unlock has been overhauled (I'll be honest this may have happened in JB but I haven't played with it since ICS) and liveliness check added (blink to make sure it's not someone holding a photo up to the camera).
- Bloat changes (whatever verizon...) but can still be disabled even without tibu.
- New radios should give better connectivity but I live in a strong signal area so someone in another area will have to verify.
Cons:
- Cannot be rooted (yet)
- Cannot roll back to ICS
- My girlfriend can no longer tease me that her phone (my old RAZR) functions better than my HD. Wait... That's not a con :-P

Someone posted earlier that safestrap was bugging out after the update. Is anyone else having this problem, or are custom roms working?
I installed the update 9.16.6 manually and temp unrooted before hand then restored root with no problem. SS 3.12 did not work after that but I just uninstalled and reinstalled and it works fine... Roms flash fine and everything is working as it should.

Well not exactly. I haven't even gotten the update yet, so I'm just preparing for when I do get it. My wheels are starting to turn again, though.

Done. Temp unrooted, installed from sd card in stock recovery, restored root, uninstalled/reinstalled safestrap... All is good.
Can't report much improvement so far, but wake-lock seems improved.

When attempting to update, it says:
Can I simply rename the apk file to Music2.apk? Or will I need to use the actual apk that came stock?
EDIT: I tried renaming the system app to Music2.apk and it still failed.

There is no going back to ICS. If you are looking for JB root it is in the same Utility I gave you
