I did search but I am at work and may not be able to see because we block a lot of links.

How can I root 9.16.6?

Thanks!

Sadly, like these other guys have said, unless you used an app like Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to protect your root access PRIOR to updating. You're out of luck at this point. Especially considering there is no way to flash back to 4.1.1 or 4.0.4. So yeah....kinda now need to wait for 4.1.2 exploit to be developed. I know this feeling, it sucks.

So if you're on 4.1.2 you can't RSDLite back to 4.0.4 even if you go in and get rid of the getvar lines in the XML file like I seen suggested in another post on the forums?

No, there is no way as of now. Not sure what Moto has put into the new update... Until there is a work around or something, once you update there is no successful way to downgrade. And there may never be one but who knows. The first time I flashed 4.1.2, the day after it was released, I was able to downgrade once for some reason. Not sure how or why it worked that one time, but I am thinking that something did not have a chance to sync with my phone right after that first time upgrading until I used Utility 1.10(~14hrs) because I cant see what other explanation there would be...

It is my understanding that it has to do with the bootloader being updated.

I have a question- If you have a backup copy of stock 4.1.1 and did the update, could you use the backup copy to go back, if you used rootkeeper and kept root?

No, once you've taken the update there is NO WAY to go back. If you lost root when you updated or never had root then you are stuck waiting until some figures out the exploit.

Recovery backups ONLY make backups of Cache, System and Data. So the boot, radio, bootloader, etc are untouched on (these locked devices). Once they are upgraded via OTA, if you try to restore an older backup, you will be met with a black screen if you're lucky, most likely a Dual Core M and that's it.

DO take a look at that. It will allow folks to get 99% of the benefits of the OTA without killing your ability to fastboot back to ICS.

it does work mine and many others are on 4.1.2 and works very well with root
problem is , if you take the chance as I did at this moment you cannot go back
but yes if you do it properly it works well just like last update
you have to unfreeze the frozen apps I used Titanuim back with a filter to unnfreeze frozen apps
toss out your saved root with Voodo
update bionaries in Su
resave the root with Voodo then unroot
do the 4.1.2 update (98) meg
then reroot with voodo and update binaries again
worked good for me

BUT IF YOU LOOSE ROOT IN THE PROCESS YOU CAN'T GO BACK AT THIS MOMENT!! DON'T BLAME ME
I'm just saying many of us did it and works well, I like the update phone seems better :)

also I suggest to go to settings , security, device administrators, uncheck motorola services
Do it now you may not be able to later

Agreed..... but better yet IMO buy a dev edition if you want to mess around and you NEVER have to worry about any of this crap Moto/VZW pulls on updates.

Well first of all I don't have $600 just lying around to get a dev edition. Second it doesn't come in a Maxx edition. I know you get long battery life out of yours but the Maxx had 32 GB of internal memory the dev only has 16.

So what are you saying? Moto/VZW locked the phone down and I'll never see root again? Just wondering.

Understandable many ppl don't and even if they do may not be willing to drop it on a device. I'm a gadget type and more then willing to do it, and in doing so certain things dont bother me I guess with the limited options for which style they have to offer. At the end of the day I we can't have it both ways.....lol.

As for root that is very possible it may never happen. Its getting more and more difficult for exploits to even be found with the changes being made. So only time will tell if Dan is willing to get involved and see if a new exploit can be found again for 4.1.2. Whats worse IMO is the fact we'll probably see 4.2.2 and whatever is found for 4.1.2 would be patched and it will be back right ot where we are now again.
