It all depends what build you currently are on. If you took the newest OTA to get to JB 4.1.2 then no. However if you still are on the originaly JB 4.1.1 you can go backwards. FYI tho there is also a fastboot file of the newest JB 4.1.2 posted, but if you flash that there is no way to root the current 4.1.2 build of JB

If you are already rooted you can protect root with voodoo, flash the update and restore root

I am on the newest version. But when I try to fastboot the newest file posted it fails. I am wondering if I need to get rid of the getvar lines? Before trying with RSD

Use this

and edit getvar lines out then flash with rsd?

Can you explain by what you mean "newest version"?

I took the newest OTA.

My build number is

9.8.1Q-62_VQW_MR-2

So I figure to restore back to stock I would use

in RSD light. But it failed.

Then I came across where I seen you need to edit the getvar lines out of the above files before you use RSD or it will fail. But that was on an older fastboot file. I hate to assume so asking if anyone knows if this is the case now.

Thanks!

I guess I am confused at what you are trying to do. You took the latest OTA to get to 4.1.2 and now you're trying to use RSD to get to 4.1.2? If you took the latest OTA then you are on the most current stock version and there is no going back.

What happened was I was a dumbass. Misread and used 1.10 utility to try and downgrade. It flashed the old radios but nothing else. Phone works fine but want to update the radios back. For whatever reason everything failed to wriite but the radios. So I am thinking flash this and get radios back.

My baseband version is

vanquish_bp_1045.711.53.20p

There are fast boot files for the new OTA. Just download the fastboot files to external SD, boot into moto recovery and flash that way. Might be easier than rsd. Just make sure to protect root and disable/uninstall safe strap beforehand.

exactly, but not a concern ot me tho as I own Dev edition so i can flash anything i wish without issue. However on a consumer unit it is crititcal to know what you can or can't do without bricking and keeping root

FYI for future reference YES you will always have to delete the getvar lines from the XML file before using RSD to flash it.

Another FYI tho if you were to use the current 4.1.2 file and flash yor device you will in fact loose root access and will NOT get it back as there is no process to root the JB 4.1.2 build on hte HD

Hello. Looking for a bit of help. I took the OTA 4.1.2 but did not update superuser. Safestrap does not work nor does Busy box. How do I update the SU binaries. Thank you for any help

You can't at this point until a root process is put out for the OTA. Once the OTA comes in if you did not update binary before & then use Voodoo to protect then temp unroot before updating you are now SOL and have now lost root

Thank you for the help. I only did half the process. Did not update binary but Voodoo said it protected root. As the old saying goes read read read before attempting. I will wait until the root is put out. Thanks again.
