just donated $20 via Paypal. I had only pledged $10 but with the addition of the unlocked boot loader I added another $10.

Didn't need root because I haven't lost it.

A bounty could be started, but the activity would likely not be enough to encourage progress unfortunately.  The tools and information to maintain root have been available for quite some time.  The creator of Motochopper, djrbliss, has retired from exploits so please don't ask him for one (not directed at recDNA, just anyone in general).

Oh, I would never ask a developer to embark on such a tough job. I don't know how many are even capable of this type of work. Just hoping someone would. Since the phone is old and this would be a big job I understand completely if nobody wants to tackle it. The work that went into motochopper and moto apocalypse is amazing. Thanks to all the developers donating their valuable skill for pennies an hour.

You can certainly try that and see if it works.  Basically you create a custom recovery using the recovery from the MR2 or MR4 FXZ and use the instructions to boot into it (yes, on a locked bootloader...it's not flashing anything, it's simply booting into it....this will NOT circumvent bootloader security) and use custom recovery to install root using the same method those of us who are unlocked use with a flashed custom recovery.
