I just got the OEM car dock and I wanted to get one of those dashboard bases that allow you to place the suction cup of the windshield mount on the dock, then place the dock on the dashboard.

So, is

a good one or are there better solutions?

Thank you :)

The dock that I got (OEM) came with one of those. You might want to return it or request what you paid for.

The one that comes with the nav dock is a plastic circle that you attach the suction cup to, and on the bottom is some 3M adhesive that you adhere to your dash.

:-D :-D

I think the point is, he wants one that doesn't adhere to the dash, but instead is a friction base. I don't know about your car, but I would hate to damage the dash in mine. Some adhesives can dissolve plastics quite easily, especially given time. Even without dissolving anything, if it is not moved periodically even a small amount you will end up with discoloration from varying amounts of sun damage which no amount or quality of cream can completely prevent.

@OP: I have not purchased a car dock yet so I have also not hunted out friction mounts, but I would recommend verifying somehow that the mounting pad from the OEM dock does in fact fit the mounting area on the friction base, as well as verifying you will have enough clearance below the phone to have room for the bean bags. I usually end up window mounting or cup-holder mounting devices in my cars.

I've been using a scosche vent mount adjustable holder since I've had my DROIDX...

The arms on it are fully adjustable, which is why on the right side I have them moved out of the way of the volume buttons... it can swivel to whatever orientation I want, and it doesn't hurt the dash with any adhesives...
Here is the backside of the mount:

Does it offer anything to shield your phone from the AC? I had a satellite radio fried years ago from being on a vent mount, so I've never tried another.

Thank you very much for the replies! I have to admit that I posted this same question on another forum yesterday and no one has replied to it! :)

I have the plastic circle that came with it, but as snives points out, I am looking for the friction base. This way I can move it to another car and also not have a disk permanently pasted to my dash.

Snives. I'm trying to avoid the window mount. In this area, if someone sees the circle that is left on the window from a window mount, they may break into your car looking for GPS units.

Thank you very much, but this is not what I am looking for.

My vents have a open/close toggle... haven't had any issues so far... during the summer I crack it partially open and it keeps my phone from overheating when I run the ac

Good idea. I wonder if
