Can you put a U.S. Verizon SIM card in a GSM Razr and it work?

Just curious,
Chief

I'm pretty sure you can't bud. Kind of like you can't activate the CDMA XT912 on a GSM network.
We had a couple threads where some guys, I think from Afghanistan, ended up with XT912's and couldn't use them.

Sorry bud... you can always set it up as a wifi device. That's what my brother did with his while he was in Qatar. If you want I can ask him if he remembers what texting apps and all he used.

I assume your brother had a XT912 though right? Chief has the opposite problem.

Yes, sorry I didn't elaborate. I had a lot going on. But via wifi you can do any phone functions with the right rom/apps on an xt912 in a GSM only area. But only on wifi.

Thanks, guys! I do have the CDMA Razr Maxx...thought I might be able to pick up a GSM one for cheap and use my local Roshan SIM in it. Oh well.

I do currently use my phone with WiFi right now. What's a good program to be able to text via WiFi?

Thanks,
Chief

I've always used Google voice... actually use it for almost all texts ( I lowered my bill by dropping my texts to like 250... knocked my bill down $40) Google voice works well on wifi and because it uses data instead of text messaging, I can keep my bill under $170 a month (2 lines 1400 mins... thank GOD both lines have unlimited data and my wife uses Google voice instead of normal texting... that woman can text... most days she has 50 or more... doesn't help that most our customers like to text their orders anymore :P)

I would love to try Google Voice, Hoot...but when you install it, it requires to see what your phone number is and with me currently in Afghanistan and having no "service" over here, it can't install itself.

Or you can go over to gsm operator sours to check it out. I remember few years back, my parents rented a cdma phone in the USA, slot in their gsm Sim card and they can roam in USA.

Best is to check with your service provider.

Or if the cdma network is similar to Japan, my gsm xt910 is able to roam there on their 3g network..

You could use an XT910 on ATT or Tmobile if you wanted. ATT would give you HSPA+ IIRC while you'd be on Tmo's slower networks due to the frequency difference.
