I'm a newbie here from california. I took the plunge a couple of weeks ago to get my first smartphone and choose a Droid Razr. I also dragged kicking and screaming my wife into the smartphone world and got her a Bionic. We are pretty happy so far and we have SOOOO much to learn about our new toys. We're a bit older so our learning curve will prolly be slower than you youngins'.

I want to thank everyone in advance for your patience for some obvious newbie questions that i'm sure will leak out into these forums by me. My only problem is that my search tool is dependent on my brain and for that..............I'm sorry.

Thanks........

Dont worry about the search tool, the best way for me to learn is by browsing.
Under the forums just start clicking and reading all the topics...your learn more than you could ever search for.
I only use the search tool to find something I already read once.

And If you have any questions, somebody here will be able to answer :)

Welcome to Droidrzr!!!

Welcome aboard :) If I'm ever able to help I would be glad to. I also agree with Mopar, immersion is more effective for learning quickly than targeted searching. You don't even know what terms to search for until you get involved a bit. Head over to some of the general/how-to sections and read at random. Open a few ROM threads (A ROM is a customized operating system) and read about what everyone did wrong and how it was fixed. You'll probably know as much as 80% of the community in a few hours if you stick with it. It is rare people really try to learn, and it is the few of us that try to learn that become the 'naturals' or 'experts'. Put emphasis specifically on posts by VantenKiest, DirtyDroidX, DroidTh3ory and DHacker as they will not lead you wrong. I would love to be proud enough to include myself on that list, but I know I am by no means an expert :P

Thanks everyone for making me feel welcomed!

Tech geeks see those that want to learn about their toys like a box full of puppies. We look upon you and see all the great fun that we get to have feeding you and teaching you new tricks, but we know that you will still take a dump in the hall at some point when we sleep in. Try to remember when we are all being nice, and not when we get short as is occasionally human nature :) Feel free to PM me if you don't find help in chat or don't want to start a thread. Between my phone and a browser I check in a few times a day. I'm sure most everyone here would echo the same.

I would like to install a custom ROM without getting too bogged down on some of the acronyms and the "geeky" side of things. I have some basic needs that i'm looking for.
  • allow USB tethering without paying extra VZW
  • Longer Battery life
  • Remove unneccessary apps or bloatware
  • good music and video player
  • doesn't freeze on OTA's (i think that's what it called)
  • Changes Themes and colors
  • Least glitchy (i don't want to worry about a frozen screen or 5 second delay when swipe to another window, page, etc. on any app or browser)
Seems like the Eclispe has a lot of love on this site. Any recommendations?

Also, where can i find out about custom ROM's from my wife Bionic phone? Our needs are pretty much the same.
