Good morning all, I came across your most excellent site while doing a search on how to root my Motorola Razr Maxx. Ever since I've received the OTA JB update, my phone has been sluggish and has been anything but "Project Butter". I've decided to do the best thing for it, which is a FDR. I've never rooted before (!) so this will be my first time. I want to root it because I want to install Titanium Backup which of course requires root access. Wish me luck!

Hey Lucky. I am fairly new here myself, having only recently rooted my Maxx about a month or so ago. The people here are extremely helpful and they certainly take it well past just the root phase, meaning that you can learn all about flashing roms, which ones are right for your Maxx, and what other options you have. I initially rooted because I wanted to get my wireless tethering back. Even though Foxfi is supposedly functional now on JB with an unrooted device, I have found that having rooted my phone opened up so many different things to explore.

Again, I am basically new to all of this myself, however I have gained an incredible amount of knowledge from reading, visiting different sites, watching YouTube videos, and particularly from this site. There is a tremendous wealth of knowledge on this site. Now that you are going to root your Maxx and you are on Jelly Bean (presumably the .16 version since it was OTA and not the Christmas update), pay very close attention to which roms will and will not work with your device. Titanium is only a start and you have to learn how to properly use it. You are also going to want to install several important root apps that are fundamental to moving forward with roms.

It might seem overwhelming at first, however if you take your time and check everything you do a few times BEFORE you do it, you should be fine. I suggest that you search for SafeStrap 3.11, Super User, and a few more after that. BTW, this site is a very good access source to reach various rom developers.

So as you requested, Good Luck!
