It's not wiping that area because that's where it's storing your backups iirc.

When ever I wipe system or data or cache i get this message

e unknown filesystem 'datamedia'

is that normal? Do i need to fix something?

Im thinking that twrp is looking for data/media. When wiping data it will say that it will wipe all data except data/media. So might just be that the / was forgot in the twrp code.

When I first tried to restore my VZW system after trying a ROM, I had the same problem while looking for my backups. It eventually clears and presents a list of files.
