Motorola is a different beast. Its all new now to most, with an unlocked boot loader not being so familiar to loyal moto users. As far as twrp goes, use option two on this thread:

Before you flash something new, flash twrp. You'll have to be boot loader unlocked before hand, if you aren't already. And there's an extra step in flashing ROMs, where after you wipe you need to reboot recovery, mount, and then flash your ROM. Otherwise there's weird issues that come up

With twrp, you always overwrite the stock os. There are no slots. That's why it's important to make a backup of stock immediately before you do anything else. I save mine to external SD, that way I know for sure I wont lose it while wiping phone or anything, and if I want to leave a cm10 ROM, I'll flash my original stock backup to out myself back on the stock kernel before flashing something else. It seems more convenient to me to do it that way, although some folks prefer to flash the stock boot.IMG instead.

did it flash right no errors in cmd line or anything?

should look like this:

C:\Users\BRANDON\Desktop\ROM stuff\Fastboot recoverys>fastboot flash recovery twrp2.4.img

sending 'recovery' (7088 KB)...
OKAY [  0.570s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [  1.931s]
finished. total time: 2.502s

C:\Users\BRANDON\Desktop\ROM stuff\Fastboot recoverys>

make sure when you flash a recovery the first time when you exit ap fastboot hold all three buttons to boot into recovery before your phone boots or stock recovery will reflash itself lol
