Ok. I download the 98.15.66 update no problem. however when I try to install the update, It shuts down, goes to android screen like it is updating then switches to dead android with the triangle with the Exclamation mark inside the triangle. Phone reboots and then says update failed.

I copied the update file to my SD card, rebooted into recovery, and applied the update from my sd card. It started and then gave me an error saying the assert patch check (/system/app/Amazon_MP3.apk) yadda yadaa yaddaa update aborted. Im assuming it was telling me Amazon_MP3.apk was uninstalled as a system app. So I verified the app is in fact missing or uninstalled.

I tried reinstalling the app through the playstore and moving it to the /system/app but permission denied?

I did a factory reset, thinking the factory reset would place all original system apps back on the phone, but it did not.

I guess my question is how do I get Amazon_mp3.apk back in the /sytem/app so i can get the 98.15.66 update??

I was rooted, dont know if I am still rooted after the factory reset? Please Help me

Either follow the information provided in the following replies, or take the long route like I did.

 - Unlock Bootloader (optional/recommended to ensure you have an unlocked bootloader after update)

 - Use Matts Utility to fastboot back to stock to ensure you have all stock system apps prior to update

 - Update to 4.1.2 (98.15.66 enUS)

 - Root using motochopper

Thanks for all the help guys!

Use root checker to verify root access. From the play store

Make sure you mount system as r/w when copying over the apk. Then set permissions to rw-r-r. Mount system as r/o then reboot.

Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

did you happen to check and see if it updated or not even tho it said failed. My actual Dev edition devices comes up everytime as failed when using an OTA but it still updates the actual SW. I just took the 4.1.2 update over the wkend and got the same msgs but it was in fact updated.
