Hi my name is Eggster

I'm a noob to the Android phone. I have a problem trying to install my stock file manager in the /system/app folder on jelly bean 4.1.2 928.124.14.XT910.Retail.en.AU.

Basically i'm trying to run the root exploit on this phone thanks to Dan Rosenberg latest exploit. I need to run the stock file manger on my phone to access my pc through the ubuntu OS using VMware on Windows 7.

When i try to install the stock file manger on my phone i get to the install screen and hit the install button but it's not installing just says, at end of install attempt "X APP NOT INSTALLED"

i am using Astro File Manger to navigate to stock file manger.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Eggster

What happened that you don't have the stock app installed?

Thanks Livinginkaos for your reply.

What has happened thus far is when i bought the phone i updated from GB to ICS 4.0.4 and rooted the phone then when the jellybean update became available i downloaded to phone and intstalled update

and lost root up until then i never knew about the stock file manager and have been using Astro file manager. LIke i said i am a noob to the Android system. Now before i discovered i had a stock file manager

i had downloaded a version of a stock file manager ( i dont know which version ) which i downloaded to phone on my SD card and tryed to install with no success. I have deleted the downloaded version of the SFM

and still cannot install the default SFM. Other apps install from the /system/app folder just fine too.

i'm at my wits end really need to get root back.

i hope this info I've given helps you

once again thanks for any help you can offer

Cheers Eggster

You should not have needed to install the file manager as it should have already been there unless you did something to remove it.   Now, assuming it was missing and you do in fact need to install it here is what you need to do:

1. Using a root explorer of some sort (like es file explorer) mount your system folder as writeable

2. Move the File Manager.apk into the /system/app folder

3. Long press on the File Manager apk

4. Go to properties

5. Change the permissions to be rw r- r-

6.  Reboot phone

It is not necessary to "Install" the apk's located in the /system/app folder.  Some will show up just once they are in there and the permissions are correct, some just require a reboot.

Thanks for your reply Livinginkaos

I followed your steps unfortunately none of the steps worked. Again thanks for helping me i do appreciate the time you spent trying to help me

I did however back up my files put the phone into hard reset and after the last reboot and i reset my settings i found the stock file manager in my apps drawer

i dont know why it's there now, I'm not complaining hehe. but i can t explain why i now have SFM. Might be when i first updated to Jelly Bean there were some corrupted files I'm only guessing, remember Noob here.

I know i never deleted it because i never had seen it in my apps but happy now its there.

Once again thanks for all your assistance and to take the time to help me.

now i can go root this phone and get back full ownership.

Cheers Eggster
