Had you taken the ota? Or were you still on 4.1.1?

If it's not recognizing adb your driver's might be out of date and if your in fastboot adb don't work you have to use fastboot commands

And if your unlocked why are you still using ss?

Did you get your phone recovered?  To me, it sounds like an issue with how you used the utility.  Did you extract all the files from the zip, open the extracted folder, and run the utility there?

sorry i didnt get back to you i fellasleep, but yes now it seems to be a problem with my machine running the utility. i extracted it to a folder on the desktop and when i ran it the computer froze. (tried it twice from its new location and once from winrar and they both caused the computer to freeze.)

i ran the utility with no errors but i still got the same problem.... custom boot image from a rage rom and then the ss screen followed by a black screen... utility (unlike other attempts) ran perfectly with no avail. what am i supposed to see if it worked?

If the utility worked, then you will have completely stock Verizon phone, just like when you first bought it and pulled it out of the box.  Something's going wrong.  When you open the utility, you the big Batman?  Then you hit enter and it gives you the different options for you to run?  If the utility ran perfectly, your phone will be completely stock.  It didn't run perfectly. Have you read the directions and run it, word for word?

You're doing something wrong. I don't know what. How long does it take?

You are running this with the phone in fastboot mode?
