Ok, I am slightly confused.

Everyone here is raving about how JB is so smooth and fast on the Bionic. I have to disagree. JB is so far the slowest ROM I've used on my phone since Gingerbread. GB was so smooth and snappy. ICS got sluggish. And now JB can't even handle things properly. Apps crash left and right, everytime my service switches from having no service (in a subway for example) to 3g to 4g (getting out of the subway), I can't use my phone at all. It's just stalled while everything syncs up. The worst issue I've seen so far is with Google Talk. Every time I sent an IM, it takes anywhere between 5 - 15 seconds for it to appear in the chat window, and same with anyone sending me a message. Even when someone is sending consecutive messages, I will get them in 5-15 second increments between each. This is really aggravating. Other IM apps don't seem to have this problem.

In general: animation glitches, slowdowns, lags all over the place.

I don't have that many apps, and yes I've tried FXZing several times, deleting data, cache, dalvik, system, the whole nine yards. So it's not like remnants from an old ROM. I'm currently running completely stock JB and this is where these issues are. I've found that non-stock ROMs (loaded with safestrap) are a lot faster and snappier but I don't want to use them due to things that don't yet work.

Any thoughts? Maybe there's something on my internal memory causing this? So far I'm seeing that RAM usage is upwards of 80% all the time. Killing most user apps brings it down to maybe 70% but not more.

Some folks have had success going into developer options and changing the Window and transition animation scales to .5 instead of 1.

Deep clean brah. You've probably got junk left over from GB and ICS.

Edit **
Deep clean by doing a FDR and formatting internal SD card

Things were great for me in the beginning then slowed somewhat. I wouldn't say I preferred ICS or GB though (not that you said you would either).

I tried a few ROMs though and they were faster (but like you said had minor issues that have made me return to "stock").

That said, somehow I lost Swype and, while this isn't empirical, I really feel stock is much faster now. (It's the only thing I know that's different at this time).

I purchased SwiftKey a long time ago and installed it (I really like swiping). I'm really digging the speed now.

Not sure what else has changed so it could be something else. Maybe try freezing Swype and see if you get similar results?

Edit : Google Now is also off but I think I had did that before deciding to try different ROMs.

I use SwiftKey all the time. Thought that may have been the culprit as things would slow down and lag as soon as I would do something that calls for a keyboard. Remove SwiftKey but it was still slow. I'll try removing Swype.

Also, thanks @nakedtime, it's true, I have leftover stuff from GB and I definitely thought it may have something to do with the lags. I'll do the deep clean and format.

That does help~    Just did update, restored root with voodoo then slot one installed carbon in slot 1.   Noticed greenify was ok for apps you don't like to use but ones like facebook etc it made restarting real slow.  As far as speed and battery using setcpu or another with profiles and some decent settings (ie. screen off 300-600 noop hotplug, screen on 600-1200 hotplug cqf)  left it with similar battery experience I had with icarus..   Speed wise its not as fast but feature wise is makes up for it.  2825 was last benchmark.   3131 was the stripped icarus 1.8.3 and 2994 was overdrive.

Again, the problem isn't really with speed. When I'm in a good service area and not doing much on the phone, then performing a task is pretty snappy. The problem is lag and slowdowns in low service areas as well as while other apps try to sync and do other things.

edit: It feels exactly as if there is not enough RAM in the phone to handle everything. Although everyone's Bionic has the same amount of RAM, so this shouldn't be the case.

you could always increase the minimum free memory for the OS. That should reduce lag considerably if you actually are running out of RAM.

Ok, so I followed

 It didn't work. Bootlooped.

and now my phone is not rooted, has been factory reset, but still has SS installed.. what do I do next? I get errors from HOB that it cannot load certain files in order to FXZ. I have a backup of a non-safe system but SS recovery doesn't seem to see it on my sd card when I go to Restore or Install.

edit: Ok, I got the phone to mount the sd card. Trying to restore a previous backup now.

Nah.

Update: restoring a previous backup actually worked. I'm surprised. Ok, what's the best way to do a complete restore? As if I just went to a store and bought a new phone?

Delete safestrap, unroot, factory reset (from phone? from TWRP?)
