Ive had my Razr for about 3 months now, started out on ICS, and woke up one morning to discover it upgraded to 4.1.2. Ive heard about rooting for a while, but every place I have looked online gives different answers to what it is. I think the BIGGEST thing I would like to accomplish in rooting is removing apps that came pre installed that I have NO intention of using. Whats the point of them being there, soaking up RAM, and space, if Im not using them? Other than that, I do enjoy this phone. I currently use the TSF Shell app for my UI, which I love. People are always asking me "how did you do that?" So if I could get some straight foreward answers and in laymens terms, that would be utterly fantastic. Thank you for viewing.

Ummm What's the question again?? Lol..
Rooting has many benefits. Deleting apps like you said above. Adding a custom recovery (safestrap), Loading custom roms as well as a bunch of Apps in the Play store that need root access to function.
There is a Utility kicking around here should you like to do that...

A "Stock Rom" is just that, stock, it is what you get on the device when you purchase it from the retailer.
A "Custom Rom" is one that has been created by one or many others. It could have any number of changes, but usually they are de-bloated, meaning the unnecessary apps are removed, they can have performance tweaks, custom "themes", etc. Android is open source, so really the sky's the limit, sort of.

Sounds interesting. I would love to remove the unwanted apps, and if possible.. extend battery life. (But removing apps should free more power from the battery?)

You do have the ability to "disable" some if the stock apps without root. It's a compromise to get your feet wet tweaking to your liking without fear of a soft brick. This will also give you a little more time to research what you ultimately want to do, but still achieve what you asked in the OP, disabling apps you don't use.
