136.35KB   13 downloadsHi Everyone.  I am a noobie to androids and have had a razr maxx hd for about 2 months.  I have been reading and trying to self teach about android and have managed to root on ics and unlock bootloader.  However, after discovering this forum and carefully reading all the how to's and help I am convinced that my phone is stabile and rooted by pure luck.  I would like to start over, achieve the same results (rooted on ics, have disabled ota updating for jb and of course, I realized the  bootloader will be unlocked).  Just for background, I used a pc with Windows 8, 64 bit, but could really use some guidance on how to properly reinstall/reflash my phone. Also, I have been reading and book marking utilities, recoveries, I have installed adt onto my pc as well.  To start, I've attached my about screen.

Briefly I have done the following over the last two months, but as I mentioned, it was done piece meal over time and now I'm am not sure what I have...I apologize in advance if I am asking the wrong questions or using the wrong term, I am still learning android speak

Rooted using EasyRootICS

Installed super su, busybox, rootchecker, Voodoo OTA and titanium backup pro

At some point, I did add supersu to the system files

I have frozen bloatware and sadly, may have deleted some of it (wanted to avoid being forced into getting the OTA for JB)-so, I am not sure if my titanium backup has all the system bloatware

Most recently, unlocked bootloader and used the one click to replace the warning screen with the Motorola "m" when phone boots.

At this point, the phone is running good, but it is a little laggy after unlocking the bootloader and a little buggy.  I would like to do a clean installation, but honestly, I am not sure what I have and what I need to do, if someone could explain where I am and what I need to do for the clean install, I would reaaly appreciate it.  I would like to keep ICS at this point and perhaps later on, after I have a better understanding, look into custom roms.

Some points of confusion for me after reading:

Is there is a difference between adt and Fastboot? Also, I came across a thread saying the Motorola needs a 'special fastboot' file, so when people talk about flashing using these methods, I am unsure of what they mean.

Where does rsdlite fit in?

What is safestrap and do I need it?

I have seen links to recoveries, what exactly are these files? Are they the original stock packages, are they one click install files?

Will flashing/reinstalling wipe all extra apps and data off my phone?  Will I be able to use my titanium backups to reinstall these?

Lastly, and probably most importantly, what is on my phone?? Is this stock ics?  If not, do I need to get it and will I be able to put it onto my phone with a clean installation?

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions!

Honestly, I would fastboot to the latest OTA and install a custom recovery after re-rooting.  It's still rootable and you will remain unlocked.  Then, you can install any number of custom ROMs or just keep your stock one and debloat and tweak as you would like.

Here is the link to the newest utility by Matt.  It will fastboot you to 4.1.2, root you, and install a custom recovery.  You can also find the FXZ files in this forum, if you prefer to use RSD to fastboot.

Thanks droid master.  I read about Matt's utility.  Thing is, I need ICS at this point because Companion LInk (software I purchased so that I could sync to Outook 2010 by cable) doesn't work with JB-something about the way the droid and its card are 'seen' by the computer in one vs.  the other.  I know this b/c the day after I got the droid, I accepted a JB update and couldn't use Companion link anymore, I need to sync to it for work using a cable.  I went back to vzn and after begging and pleading, I got them to swap it for one that still had ICS and it worked fine again.  I saw that Matt has a utility 1.1 for ICS, can I use that ?  Does that one install custom recoveries as well, 1.2 seemed to have more options as I recall. Thanks for help.

Since your bootloader is unlocked, you should be able to flash back to ICS.  However, this will limit the amount of custom ROMs you can use because most development has moved on to the updates.  Run a clean install and re-root with the older utility.  Then use the seperate recovery install tool to flash a recovery.  This should get you going pretty well.

You can also do a quick cleanup by doing a factory reset and wipe cache/dalvik.  This might be all you need to get the phone running smoothly again.  Install the recovery and do the wipe and FDR in recovery, make sure you make a backup first.
