Hey everyone, have a question....whats up with permissions on all the apps? I do understand that certain permissions are needed for the app to perform certain functions. But what about those that require a lot of extra permissions?....like a flashlight app that needs full network communications or google maps that need phone calls permissions?

It's a good thing that you are checking permissions, it's a good habit to have. Most of the time it's so you can access all the great features the Android OS has to offer, but some shady developers use the fact that most people don't check (or don't know to check) to gain access to your information. Sometimes it is sold to advertisers, or used to advertise directly to you. The possibilities are almost endless unfortunately. If you ever have a question on why an app is asking for specific permissions, or just the general reputation of an app or developer please feel free to ask.
Not that maps isn't ridiculous with its permissions but it needs acess to the phone for when you search for a business and then acquire their phone number and would like to direct dial from the app. Now why maps needs access to my SMS and SD card that I don't know.

For the same reason it asks for access to your phone; so you can both text and save directions and/or maps.

Thanks for the info...Would be nice to know which apps to stay away from
Its hard to say what apps to stay away from since there are so many. Follow your gut, check the permissions required, and read the comments. That's about the best advice I can give and what I tend to do.
