Not 100% sure how the unlocked bootloader works, but if you got a complete update of the developer edition of the razr and flashed it on a standard razr, would it flash the unlockable bootloader? Even if the OS wouldn't load, you could still flash a rom over it with the new boot loader. Forcing it to flash on a different model might be hard to get around but I haven't seen any posts about it so I thought i'd ask.

This has been discussed a few times and the conclusion is that it would not work. The only way we are going to have a unlocked bootloader is if Moto unlocks it or gives us the tools to do so.

Ah, well thanks. One one hand, love HTC for unlocking their $#!+, but their UI is horribly slow. and I like stock things. (Just play around with different roms, don't really use them. . . . I know i'm wierd.) but hate Moto for not giving us unlock options. /sigh

I have been on stock for a couple weeks now and I know some may make fun of me for saying this but I don't mind it too bad. I have ran a lot of roms but haven't found the one for me yet.

Question though... if the hardware is the same like the RAZR and the maxx... couldn't we flash a fill fxz and replace the mbm with the one from the dev RAZR?

Someone with more knowledge might be able to answer better. But if i remember right it has something to do with the code that makes it not work.

That was my thought too... it seems to easy for Moto to overlook that we could just flash the unlocked fxz to our devices then we'd be unlocked... I'm sure they'll change the authentication. Even Moto's not that dumb. ...or are they? lol

It seems to me unless the hardware is different there isn't a way for the software to know what it is being flashed on. That is my theory. I don't mind stock roms, I just don't like blur, it is slow. Been using dxhome. Very fast. Lots of themes too. Lots of quality themes. I don't like all the bloatware either. So glad on the ics leak you can hide them by default.

The difference lies in the eFuse chip used. It perminently (physically) flags the device type (engineering, consumer, demo, etc). The system first verifies with this chip if you are supposed to have a locked bootloader by default, then checks your bootloader setting (where Moto would do a software unlock), then begins loading the system.

Forgot about that damn eFuse... damn those Moto bastards.

@ snives So there is a hardware difference.

It might not be that the hardware is different, but if that pesky eFuse is set to default "locked" and one were to flash an unlocked mbm successfully then it would trip the eFuse and disable the system boot.
