What is your opinion on the "Hangouts" replacement of the outgoing "GTalk"?

Update, eh? Guess I'll back-up my "Talk" apk and give it a shot. But for some reason, I have a strong feeling it's gonna take several iterations before I can deal. Again, like it's been said, I love you guys, but I don't freakin' wanna hang out wit ya, I just wanna talk.  :lol:

I have the "updated" version.... IMO not much better...... still using it tho...:wacko:

Still gonna take some [a lot of ] work for it to be awesome :blink:

I just like the original. I think companies messed this up when they tried to replace apps like yahoo mail with new java interfaces.. When I got the new Gmail update on my droid. I truthfully did not even understand what I was looking at.. Yet alone how to delete a message!

Hey tucs, I know I'm reviving this old topic - but watch out!!! I just upgraded my Nexus 7 to 4.3 and it forces Hangouts. Can't uninstall it and let it revert to Talk. Currently working on seeing if freezing and sideload will work. :)

Hi! I'm kind of a longtime lurker (and sort of relished that status, lol) but... I was wondering if you'd had success? The ROM I'm on came with Hangouts and I tried to restore Talk from a TiBu backup but it keeps Force Closing. Tried wiping cache/Dalvik with no success. I also tried installing the .apk in the OP but the install kept failing. I feel like I'm missing something basic...

First you need to delete the hangouts.apk with a root explorer ( es or romtoolbox) reboot then try to install the talk.apk

Thank you so much!  I'd been using Speed Software's Root Explorer with no luck.  Switched to ES and it worked like a charm.

Awesome I'm glad I could help you.. Hangouts takes time getting use to but if you do decide to use it I'd suggest the one from team black out they have a inverted and clear one.

Just a quick update for anyone who's interested - I was able to get Talk to work, but when I tried to video chat, the video kept force closing...  There are associated lib files for that and voice chat.  I did a little digging and someone on a different forum packaged together a flashable zip.

I flashed it and it all works!
