all the 4.2.2 roms do , as far as i know

Don't most roms now have their own kernel? As in cm10.1,pac,etc?

Sent from my DROID Razr M

Kind of... It's still a changeover because before the Bootloader unlock they did not need them due to the way safestrap worked. We are now still in the transition period back to normal rom flashing style.

Gotcha, so say if I wipe the system and flash a rom without a kernel it won't boot unless I flash a kernel correct?

pretty much. if you go from a 4.2.2 rom to a 4.1.2 rom your gonna need to flash the 4.1.2 kernel

ok it failed for what ever reason i can not get roms to flash

I wipe EVERYTHING, reboot recovery , mount system, flash.

i use the twrp file manager and nothing is installed system dir is empty as the rest of the phones directory's.

backups work, zip installs do not. what gives.

so frustrated.

You mean you're having trouble finding the files to flash in twrp? Icjad this same issue, after coming from a 4.2 ROM. Don't remember which, there's been too many. It had to doc with the way the file trees change, with the zero folder and emulated storage. I had to restore a backup, use a file manager and move my .zip files to a folder I created in ext SD card. (Not by going through the 0 folder). I believe you want to move into the tree that says storage/sdcard1. Someone can chine in if that sounds right or not

Make sure you aren't saving them to the emulated storage, and that it's actually the SD card. Otherwise nothing shows in twrp. Lol, that was a frustrating learning experience for me. Now my first move when I download something is moving it to a folder I created on the actual SD card

personally for me if you just put it on the root of sd card you dont have to open a folder . one step less for flashing :) i like it quick lol

Lol. Nice. I created a ROMs folder, just to make it easier on me to find everything. My SD card is packed full of all kinds of stuff.
