Yes. Put the zip file in /data/local
It will overwrite the stock animation.

bdh I don't need to flash in safe strap...?? I downloaded into my external memory so what I need to do next??

Just unzip the file and drop the two included files in the place BDH said to. Make sure permissions are correct and reboot.

I put in /system/media (where bootanimation.zip typically lives) ... works and looks great .gif)

permissions what u meant clearly tell me already one boot animation zip on local folder so can I delete it and drop this new zip on local folder???

Yes.... you can just drop it in the /data/local or /system/media folder .you can delete the original if you want or just overwrite it when you drop in folder....... then simply reboot (wipe cache and dalvik cache) you should be ok
(permissions should already be set properly, it was for me anyway) .... telekinectically tapped ....
