keep in mind that your warranty pertains to the software, and is tied to Motorola, not VZW. VZW is forever bound to help you with your signal and whatnot. Motorola will still honor your warranty should something break regarding the hardware (like a dead vibrator, etc.) hahaha, I know, I know...
anyhow, I would advise to avoid the SS method, as the 4.2.2 ROMs can only be installed via TWRP/CWM. also, with SS, you have to create a 1GB ROM slot, and that takes up space on the already space-strapped device.
here's what I would do if I was you:
1.) root
2.) unlock bootloader
3.) install TWRP
4.) install a bare bones stock 4.1.2 ROM (see Tim's post)
5.) back that ROM up via TWRP (and save it to your external SD)
6.) install a 4.2.2 ROM to your liking
the great thing about TWRP is that you can flash eleventy-billion times and not brick your device (believe me, I know from experience)
