Okay,

With New ROM Installs, Updates, ROMs going to Hell in a Hand-Bags for Not Cleaning prior Data...Here it is:

We

  • Create a New Slot
  • Than we do all these Wipes after its Created
  • Wipe Cache
  • Wipe Dalvik
  • Wipe Factory
  • Wipe System
  • Than Install a Downloaded ROM
  • Or, Flashing to Restore a ROM

The part that confuses me is...

  • After its Created Why do we...
  • Wipe everything that is Created in this Slot to Flash a New ROM or Restore maybe with just Wipes of Caches...
  • If you Wipe everything that is Created...doesn't it Void the Whole reason for Creating a New Slot

Asking just so I understand this piece...Wiping Everything after the Slot is Created doesn't make sense to me, but most things don't anyways...

Thanks...

I know, Numb question but, had to ask

Well when you create a new ROM slot, Safestrap will put a "filler system" and "filler data" so to speak, on that ROM slot. It has to create a fake system of sorts. This is why you have to wipe everything after creating one.

Deleting then recreating the ROM slot should be a last resort, it's not a requirement to flash a ROM. All you should have to do is always do your wipes, then flash. Then if that doesn't work, that's when you should try deleting and recreating the ROM slot.

Lastly, none of the wipes are required if the developer of the ROM adds them in the "updater-script" prior o packaging the ROM. For instance on my Rage Rom build, none of my users have to wipe anything. When flashing Rage Rom, the updater-script provided in my ROM will wipe cache and dalvik cache for them. All they have to do is flash.

The updater-script is what shows on your screen when flashing a ROM.

Hope all this helps!
