First, I just want to make it clear that my intention is not to give anyone a "get out of jail free card" if they are stuck on a leak. As much as I would love to get off of my stuck .85 build, I have no plans of any shady insurance claims anytime soon. It is just nice to know I am covered in the event something happens.

With that said. When I first bought my RAZR back in Nov I did not elect for the insurance coverage because I take good care of my phones and in over 3 years of using Droids (and 9 years total with a cell phone), I have never had to make a claim. I figured, why waste the money if I am never going to break or lose my phone.

Well, after a few months, I had lost my phone but luckily it was found by an honest person who actually called the number in my contacts listed as "home" and my Razr was returned to me. Needless to say, with a phone this expensive, I regretted not having insurance.

So, fast forward to recently. My desire to feed my crack-flashing addiction coupled with my RAZR being permanently stuck on .85, I decided to go ahead and purchase a brand new MAXX for my daily use and "safe" flashing, and my Razr would be my experimental phone. After dropping $700 on the phone, I obviously chose to take the insurance.

Unfortunately, my wife was not as thrilled with my new purchase and toy as I was and after a few days (like a good husband), I decided my wife was right and that money could have gone to something else for the family. I returned the MAXX to Verizon and was promptly refunded, minus the $35 restocking fee.

Which brings me to today. I just looked on my account and apparently the insurance that I elected when I bought the MAXX was simply applied to my account and is still there. I even did a quick double check to make sure and my old RAZR is now covered by insurance. Talk about a loophole!

Anyway, just thought I would share for those that are regretting not having insurance and who may have a few hundred $$ lying around that they can "loan" to VZW for a few days.

I would check again in a few days man, might just take them a minute to catch on or to just update the system. I wouldn't consider yourself ok just yet.

I take good care of my phones always have, but i have 4kids from 9 to 2 so i always get insurance. 3 of my lines are ebay phones, and i have insurance on them. Everyone says you can only get insurance with a new from vzw phone but this is not true. As long as you select it within 30 days (i think) of activation and its a newer phone you can add insurance. I say newer because i recently had to file a claim due to my 2 year old flushing one of our lines. It was an ebay phone, and yes the covered it. While i waited for my replacement i activated an old droid 2 and when i did it notified me that my insurance MAY be cancelled on this line. Not would be but may be. The next day when i got my replacement i called vzw to make sure it was on their and thwy said it remained insured but the bumped the droid 2 down from the highest level of protection, like 6 somethin a month the the 5 somethin a month because the phone was several years old. But as soon as i activated my replacement thw kicked it right back up.
So dont feel like your doing sumthing wrong, in a situation like mine or yours where we have several years of service (with multiple lines for me) and no claims or in my case 1 claim, they end up making money.
Lets say my 5 lines at 6.50 a month each. Plus 10 each for my 2 tabs. Thats about 52.50 a month, x 12 months is 630 a year. Plus the 100 deductable if you use it. X ? Of years you have been with them. Thwy end up doing ok, and dont mind insuring you. Honestly if i didnt have so many lines i wouldnt have insurance as i could esilybget a replacement on ebay for about 3 or 4 hundred and sit on that earning interest instead of paying the 6 smthin a year for insurance.

on a side not why dont you purchase a maxx from ebay and then sell your og. Even on. 85 it will sell and you could end up with a new maxx for about a hundred or 200 bones.

I had thought about it but i don't trust ebay. At least with my luck anyway. I am afraid to put down a couple hundred only to receive a maxx stuck on a leak and having to deal with the headache of claiming i was lied to.

I will wait it out a bit longer and see what happens when the ota comes and if some devs can work some magic to get us off the leak.

Yeah, i wouldnt be surprised if it gets removed one day but so far it has stayed beyond one billing cycle.

When we get fastboot files and can revert to an OTA build I should totally send my $#!+ back just to be mean to Verizon for sucking and giving Moto a scapegoat for their bootloader BS.

Totally serious unfortunately lol

And afaik the insurance policy is associated with the MEID of the phone, so even if you continue to pay for it, if you were to make a claim they would just refund your premiums and rescind your policy retroactively.

I appreciate you being honest and forthright about not scamming insurance...but I for one will 100% pulling a fast one. I really hope once ota hits someone gets the fast boot files. I will be happy. But if not. I will be getting a Replacement. Selling my bad esn and my good esn and buying a phone w less restrictions. I feel like I am being punished for playing w my device. I own this $#!+. I can do what I want. Don't blame me and call me a con artist or a scammer., blame Motorola.
Side note...if they come thru a drop fast boot files that would be great because really enjoy my maxx :P

Not sure i agree, i had a on contract tbolt with insurance got a razr off ebay to replace it. It showed on my vzw as razr. Still charged me same insurance. 3 mths later my lil dude murdered it. Filed my first ins claim since iv been with vzw and got my new phone within 2 days.

Maybe i was just lucky, but rep told me it covers phone on line as long as been on there atleast 14 days.

Jungleking76. If you did get a phone off of ebay. I would ask for a picture of the about phone. So then you know if its on a stuck leak. And if they jip you. Well then you have pictures and proof. Would also ask for esn and check if its clean. I would activate it asap. I bought a d1 and it was a clean esn and then check and it was. I bought it as a spare as my eye speaker was going out. When I tried to activate it a week after having it. Bad esn. Vzw did not care they I bought it off ebay and that I could prove it. I would sell it on the site. Someone might want it.

I have Moto Razr....I will cut you.
To powerful to fall into my hands. Click......Rooted. ICS rommed!!!!! Muhahahahah!!!!
