HELP!!! i tried to run this update, i dont know what i screwed up, but i did something. now im left with a soft bricked razr that says assert failed: apply_patch_check...........ECT. when i try to force flash the .84 files to restore. can anybody shed some light on this?

the instructions in the op are pretty straightfoward....when did it brick on you? I mean at what part in the process? The only small issue i had was first going into stock recovery....the android popped up and loaded something for a while, then i had to reboot back into bootloader menu and select recovery again......other than that it was flawless.

well it was actually a pretty dumb mistake, i forgot to place the .206 update on the card. then i went through the whole deal and flashed the .86 and it aborted and now i am stuck.

Get an SD card reader or use another phone to push the 206 file to the SD card.

yea...thats what i figured, ima do it when i got home. just wanted to get some backup or if there was a different way. PS. Apple sucks :-P

Thanks for the great help on the ICS 206 update. I need to find out what is going on and if someone can help it would be must appreciated. I'm on 181 and rooted. Never put in an ICS update. Do I need to use the 1.6 utility and and the Unstuck_ICS tool etc? It notes that I need the 206 kernel !! I'm kinda new at this but I guess my question is can I just go to recovery and flash 206, then use the instructions to root again and have 206 ICS with root?
Big thanks in advance and I hope this is not a too elementary question.
PS - at first I tried to open the Droid Razr Utility 1.6 and turn my phone off and restart with Volume Down and Power and held for a while, on release my Razr Maxx just rebooted. I know the utility works as I tried #12 reboot phone and that works so I know my Moto drivers are ok.
I hope this is not over my head, but I desire ICS as I'm quite happy with it on my Rezound...very happy in fact.

Unfortunately I have rebooted into recovery several times and continue to receive the same error message. I have started over from step 1 in the op several times as well. Any further guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you get that message, wipe data, do the update again. If THAT fails, reboot. wipe cache, then install it again. That worked for me.

Thank you for the response. Just ran through these steps three separate times. I am still receiving the same error message. Any other suggestions?

Got it on the first try! But when I back to 85 to root I no longer have a working driver. Usb debugging checked, pdanet works and rsd see my phone but can't manually view internal or external files and 1.6 utility does not see my phone. Uninstalled and reinstalled and rebooted laptop and no luck. Any suggestion?

Somebody just posted this exact thing a few posts back - have you taken 5 minutes to read this thread? Those errors are supposed to happen, just like the OP states.
