I Have An XT912 Rooted On A .16 Kernel. I Am Trying To Flash A Custom ROM With No Success. I Have Uninstalled And Reinstalled SS And Verified The MD5sum, Wiped Cache, Etc, And Checked The ROM .Zip Files That Are On My Ext Sdcard But When I Swipe To Install A ROM It Says Failed And That It Can't Open The Zip File. I Know Missing Something Here. What Is It?

Did you create a ROM slot? You cannot flash over stock.. ... telekinetically tapped, tenaciously traversing the terrain ...

Maybe try redownload SS..... it may be something funky with the one you have..... reboot....reinstall then try again.....

If that does not work you may have to backup and format internal storage then run Matt's utility (option 1) to " nuke and repave" .....

I have everything backed up with titanium so no problem to wipe it. Will I need to root again after wiping? I have already reinstalled SS once but I didn't erase the backup that I made with SS but I wouldn't think that would cause an issue. Maybe in assuming too much...

You will have to root again and reinstall SS

If you use the utility then yes you will need to root again.... reinstall SS..... and yes the old SS file on internal storage can interfere with a new installation of SS.... Ninj'd by memnoch  :blink: ... telekinetically tapped, tenaciously traversing the terrain ...

Ok. I'll kill all traces of SS. The back up I'm referring to is on the external sd. This is still an issue I'm guessing...

Typically on ext storage is not an issue.... but we have been seeing some cases of ext storage "stuff" interfering ..... you can always just remove ext .... put it back after :)

I thought when you flashed a ROM in SS it had to have the zip on the ext. Maybe you are just saying offload the backup then put out back after I'm done? I backup system and data through titanium anyway so does it really matter?

I thought you meant when wiping (using utility)..... but yes the ROM zip needs to be on ext..... and yes.... offload anything you don't need right away..(copy to computer).. then you can put it back later

In case you don't know, titanium does not back up your storages.... that has to be done manually....

I manually backup pretty much everything manually. I'm kinda new when it comes to customizing Android. I still feel more at home in Windows and I am more proficient there but I do like Android framework, a lot. My twrp backup is what I meant about the file left by SS on the ext sd card so will it cause an issue reinstalling SS?

It shouldn't ..... like I said, typically anything on ext usually will not impact it at all.....:)

Looks like Matt's utility is my only option at this point. It's just weird that it says it can't open the .zip file.

Actually just got done doing that. As it said failed I finished downloading Matt's utility to my new laptop. It is on my other Windows 7 laptop that my wife uses now. I figured that I would try it on my win 8 machine.

Ok, I did a factory reset/data wipe then I used Matt's utility with option 1. then 3.  I installed SS again and long story short, nothing changed, FAILED.  Now what????

well if the hash was good and you dont have a corrupt file, it seems like the only thing I havent seen tried is a different sdcard......

Tried a different SD card before and after the wipe. Would the fact that I set up minimal stuff before reinstalling stuff affect anything. Also, all of my data from sdcard0 is still there. This should be simple considering the tools we have available. Someone has to have had the same problem that I am.
